Update from Roger McAnoy regarding Lakesisde Work July 2012 Taylor Wimpey has let a contract to Materials

s Movement to remove the vegetation and top soil from around the lake shore adjacent to Skye Crescent to the other side of the Little Callow Mound (viewing area). They will then reduce the slopes down to the lake in accordance with RoSPA and MKC requirements before replacing the topsoil. These activities will take place over the next 3-4 weeks depending on weather, with the vegetation clearance starting on the far side of the site today. The contractor is due to send out a letter drop to residents. If you have any questions please let me know or if preferred we could meet up and discuss these works and some of the other activities due to start shortly as noted below. 1) Once the slopes have been reduced another contractor will start lowering the lake by about a metre before constructing the water inlet and outlet control structures between the lake and the brook (these structures are on the other side of Little Callow Mound). On completion of this work the Phase 1 surface water outlet headwall will be constructed so completing the civil engineering works opposite your homes. We are currently discussing and agreeing the detailed planting plans with the council. 2) There are also plans to start the work on Drayton Road, Skew Bridge and the Eastern Junction next month. 3) A planning application has been submitted recently to MKC for the Temporary Community Centre, located by Lundy Walk. This will be erected as soon as we have consent from the council. 4) Materials Movement will start in August to raise the ground levels around the employment land adjacent to the WRG access road and form the associated surface water basins and ponds. The construction period will be approximately 6 weeks depending on weather. 5) Tamdown is currently snagging and repairing the road, drainage and footpaths along Lundy Walk and this work is due for completion early August. There is an ecologist supervising the current lake side works and I am sure she could talk you though the precautions that are being taken to ensure no nesting birds, reptiles, etc are disturbed. The reprofiling of the lake is primarily to provide a safe environment for the future i.e. to reduce steep slopes and deep water near the waters edge where there will be walkways. Unfortunately this will require the earthworks to remove the top soil and reeds adjacent to Skye Crescent and around Little Callow Mound towards Phase 2. The top soil will be put back afterwards but new reed planting will be required. Nothing will happen to the woods between Phase 1 and Phase 2 and no water edge treatment will take place to damage the reeds. However once the water level is lowered and controlled by the surface water inlet and outlet from Jubilee Brook then nature will take its course in this area. The layout and details are described in the Jubilee Lake planning approval that should be available from Milton Keynes Council.
