Auxiliary Power Supply Equipment (APSE)

Efficiently supporting critical loads

Vehicle mounted static converters consisting of Inverter and Low Voltage Power Supply (LVPS), provide three phase, single phase and DC electrical supplies for the following: Heating ventilation Air conditioning (HVAC) systems General auxiliary supplies Propulsion cooling supplies Battery charging and control equipment. for the inverter loads of the other car in the event of a fault. In addition, the LVPS is 200% rated and operated in a parallel coupled regime to significantly increase supply availability for the trains critical low voltage loads. Maintenance operations are simplified by the extensive on-board communications capabilities. The autonomous inverter and LVPS control systems within each APSE communicate with the in Cab Fault Identification and Monitoring (FIMS) System to transmit status information to the operator and maintenance personnel. In addition, the inverter and LVPS system communicate with Portable Test Equipment (PTE). Time tagged records of faults and events are continuously updated to provide historical and pre/post fault information for maintenance personnel via a laptop computer.

An APSE is fitted to the underside of each car with the trains operating as two car Basic Train Units (BTU). The APSE provides all of the auxiliary supply requirements for the car from the 750Vdc traction supply with a 750Vdc paralleling scheme available to support the car loads through rail gaps. The APSE is equipped with an AC load shed / Power Transfer scheme so that each inverter output can provide redundancy
