International Red Cross after the army moved a Palestinian family into

GAZA - WHERE THE WORLD HIDES ITS CONSCIENCE
“Gaza is a prison where 79 percent of households live in poverty, and children
scavenge through dumpsters. It is also an Israeli target range, where schools, bridges
and electric plants have been destroyed.”

inside Palestinian territory, destroying dozens of Christian and Muslim Palestinian
communities.
Meanwhile, Palestinians are the first occupied population to be placed under

 JEWISH MP COMPARES ISRAELI TROOPS IN
GAZA TO NAZIS
SIR Gerald Kaufman, the veteran Labour MP, yesterday compared the actions
of Israeli troops in Gaza to the Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland.
Sir Gerald, who was brought up as an orthodox Jew and Zionist, said:
“My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town…
a German soldier shot her dead in her bed.
“My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering
Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza. The present Israeli government ruthlessly and
cynically exploits the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in
the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians.”
He said the claim that many of the Palestinian victims were militants “was the
reply of the Nazi” and added: “I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the
Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants.”
He accused the Israeli government of seeking “conquest” and added:
“They are not simply war criminals, they are fools.”

 POPE’S AIDE COMPARES GAZA TO
CONCENTRATION CAMP
A SENIOR aide to the Pope has sparked a serious diplomatic row
between the Vatican and Tel Aviv by describing Gaza as “a big
concentration camp”.
In an interview with Italian media on Wednesday, Cardinal
Renato Martino, president of the Vatican’s Council for Justice and
Peace, said “Defenceless populations are always the ones who
pay. Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more, it resembles
a big concentration camp.”

 AN HONEST TEXTBOOK
ISRAELI right-wingers are furious at the acknowledgement in a new
schoolbook that Palestinians were forcibly expelled when Israel was
established in 1948.
They claim it undermines Israel’s legitimacy as a Jewish nation state.
Zevulun Orlev, the leader of the National Religious Party, called on the
education minister, Yuli Tamir, to step down after she gave the go-ahead
for the new textbook, which is much more honest about the 1948 war
than many Israelis are.
“Some of the Arab residents were forced to leave their houses and
some were expelled and became refugees in the neighbouring Arab
countries,” the book says.
The book says that what for Jews was a fight for Israeli independence was
for Arabs “a catastrophe, a war of disaster and loss”.

 ETHNIC CLEANSING
“In between December 1947 and well into the1950s, the ethnic cleansing
operation continued. Villages were surrounded from three flanks and the
fourth one was left open for flight and evacuation. In some cases it did
not work, and many villagers remained in the houses—here is where
massacres took place. This was the principal strategy of the Judaization
of Palestine.
The ethnic cleansing took place in three stages. The first one was from
December 1947 until the end of the summer of 1948, when Palestinian
villages along the coastal and inner plains were destroyed and their
population evicted by force. The second stage took place in the autumn
and winter of 1948/9 and included the Galilee and the Naqab (Negev).
The third phase was to extend beyond the war until 1954, when dozens
of additional villages were destroyed and their residents expelled. Out of
about 900,000 Palestinians living in the territories designated by the U.N. as
a Jewish state, only 100,000 remained on or nearby their land and houses.
Those who remained became the Palestinian minority in Israel. The rest
were expelled or fled under threat of expulsion; a few thousand died in
massacres.”

 ETHNIC CLEANSING - AN ONGOING PROCESS
“Ethnic cleansing happens when Israel connects the Jewish settlement
of Kiryat Arba with that of Hebron by a promenade which cuts the
heart of Palestinian Hebron and necessitates the demolition of scores of
Palestinian houses along the route, described as “uninhabited”, as being
“shelter to terrorists” or as “belonging to rich families living elsewhere”.
Ethnic cleansing happens when Israel builds a security fence on
Palestinian fields, cutting them from their owners; the farmers cannot
access their land and are forced to find their living elsewhere.
Ethnic cleansing happens when settlers terrorise the Palestinian village
of Khirbet Yanun, break into houses destroying whatever they find; last
October, only two old men were left of the whole village, the rest of its
population had taken refuge in the neighbouring town of Akrabeh.
Ethnic cleansing is the motivation behind every new acre taken by
Jewish settlements, behind “security zones” and “by-pass roads”, behind
fences and military outposts. It is behind every siege and closure, aimed
at reducing Palestinian movement to their immediate surroundings,
confining them to their enclave, to their town or village, to their house.
The fenced Gaza Strip is already termed “the great prison” by its own
inhabitants; last week, Israel once again cut it into three separate zones.”

 APARTHEID
In July 2008, 21 South African activists, including ANC members,
visited Israel and Occupied Palestine. Their conclusion was
unanimous. Israel is far worse than apartheid as former Deputy
Minister of Health and current MP Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge
explained:
“What I see here is worse than what we experienced - the
absolute control of people’s lives, the lack of freedom of
movement, the army presence everywhere, the total separation
and the extensive destruction we saw....racist ideology is also
reinforced by religion, which was not the case in South Africa.”

$133.132 billion. It could mean that U.S. government has given more federal aid to the average Israeli citizen
in a given year than it has given to the average American citizen.
