The Palestine-Israel conflict

The Palestine-Israel conflicts date back to the end of the nineteenth

century. In May 1948, Britain withdrew from Palestine and Israel, making Israel

independent, where Arab armies started forming against the formation of the

Israel State. Since the turn of the twentieth century, Israel has continued to uproot

Palestinians, bomb their homes, and cause trauma to several families while

annexing their land.

Since 1917, Jews have made up approximately 6% of the population,

placing them in the minority. But in 1948, Zionist soldiers drove more than

750,000 Palestinians out of the country, taking over 78 percent of it. The

occupation of Palestinian territory and the eviction of Palestinians have continued

since 1967, particularly in the West Bank. Israelis seized and occupied the West

Bank in 1967, beginning the occupation. After the Six-Day War, Israel had taken

control of the Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from

Jordan, and the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip from Egypt. Subsequently, in

what is known as the first intifada, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians residing

in the West Bank and Gaza Strip rose against the Israeli government in 1987.

Additionally, The 1993 Oslo I Accords served as a peacemaking instrument,

providing a framework for Palestinian self-governance in the West Bank and

Gaza while enabling reciprocal recognition between the newly constituted

Palestinian Authority and the government of Israel.

Since the start of the occupation in Palestine, talks about how cruel and

violating these attacks have always concerned the world, especially the UN. On

March 25, 2022, The Human Rights Councill discussed with the Special

Rapporteur to speak off this matter. The ON has before reported on this manner

and issued that these acts violate human rights. Other countries have testified of

the injustices in Palestine, such as Syria stating that: "the gross and systemic

human rights violations committed by the Israeli authorities in the occupied

Palestinian territories, and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of

continuing attacks of the Israeli authorities and the blockade of the Gaza Strip,

continued" (Produced by The United Nations Information Service in Geneva).

These violations include the brutalization of children, the torture of Palestinian

prisoners by the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), the blockade in Gaza, and many

more. The United Nations concluded: "There must be swift and full

investigations into all violations of international law, international human rights

law, and international humanitarian law, and the guilty should be punished to the

fullest extent thereof." Contrary, Hamas, the military in Gaza, fired rockets

toward Israel on May 10th because the IDF was refusing the department from Al

Aqsa. Michele Bachelet, a UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, noted:

"Hamas and other armed groups launched a heavy rocket barrage towards Israel.

These rockets are indiscriminate and fail to distinguish between military and

civilian objects, and their use, thereby, constitutes a clear violation of

international humanitarian law." Hamas is a terrorist group that results as a threat

to the liberation from Israeli occupation in the Palestinian State.

Palestinians' road to liberation is a long one. Propaganda made by the

Israel government has limited their way of changing other countries' opinions.

Some of these propaganda examples are videos or "Tik Toks" from IDF military

personnel explaining how they help Palestinians (Tik Tok user nataliafadeev, an

IDF Military Police reservist.), showing casualties caused by Palestine's bombs,

and posting propaganda tourist videos so people can visit Israel. These events

hide the facts of the conflict, making people oblivious to the suffering of

Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli government. Supporting the cause for a

better world in which Israel and Palestine stop fighting is a cause that anyone can

get behind and a helpful one to ensure the cease of abuse towards Palestinians.
