Kinds of Flower Arrangement

HORIZONTAL FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Select a shallow, wide vase roughly one-third the height and width of your horizontal flower arrangement. Cut a piece of floral foam to fit the bottom of your vase. Fill the vase with roomtemperature water. Place the line flowers or foliage at the sides of the foam so they stretch horizontally or parallel to the work surface on either side of the vase. Place the focal flowers in the middle of the arrangement with the tallest flower in the middle. Fan the focal flowers out to the sides just above the lip of the vase. Focal flowers are large and usually have one flower per stem. Examples of focal flowers include roses, daffodils, camellias and irises. Fill in the arrangement with your filler flowers and small pieces of foliage. These flower arrangements make ideal centerpieces as they are not very tall and will not block the view or hinder the conversations of your guests sitting across the table from one another.

PEDESTAL ARRANGEMENT
INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Measure the height of other items used on the table. When using a pedestal arrangement, its important that it be higher than anything else on the table or it will get lost. For example, if you buy shorter pedestals, the flowers are hard to see among the foods and other flowers on the table. 2. Pick a size of pedestal based on the size of the available space. If you have a smaller table, you want to use smaller pedestals with less flowers, as larger arrangements overpower or take over the space. Likewise, if you have a larger space, a smaller arrangement disappears when placed on the table.

3. Set a piece of foam meant for use with flowers into a bowl or vase with water. When you push your flowers into the foam, it creates an air pocket that slowly feeds air to the flowers. The water underneath the foam gets water to each flower without oversaturating them, and there should be enough air to keep the flowers alive throughout the night. 4. Trim the edges of fresh flowers slightly with your scissors and slide them directly into the flower foam. Trimming the flowers helps them live longer. Use flowers of different sizes and shapes, as well as those in different stages of life, but make sure that the flowers work with your color scheme for the party 5. Wrap the bottom of the pedestal in ivy, starting at the top and working your way to the bottom. Tuck the end of the ivy underneath to hide the edges of the plant. Fill a spray bottle with cool water and lightly spritz the flowers before setting the arrangement out.

ROUND FLORAL ARRANGEMENT

Gather Your Flowers and Tools

1. Use 6-8 stems each of two different types of foliage and 7-11 stems each of three varieties of flower (or 2-3 stems if using spray flowers) for this small arrangement. Condition your flowers and foliage. The stems will be cut quite short when you arrange them, so they don't need to be left too long when you condition them.From left: white single roses, purple veronica, white lisianthus, salal stems and eucalyptus stems 2. Place half a block of soaked floral foam in the shallow bowl, trim the corners of the foam with a craft knife and bind it to the bowl with stem.

3. Trim the smaller stems from the different sprays of foliage and use one variety of foliage to create a skeleton framework. Insert a stem at an angle in each side of the foam at the base (so the leaves are angled downward to hide the base of the bowl). Insert three stems in a line across the top of the foam. Press the stems firmly, but not too far, into the foam, about 3/4 inch deep.

4. Add a few stems of the second type of foliage at an angle to fill the natural spaces in the foam. You want to achieve an even, rounded shape with the angled leaves, but not all the foam should be hidden at this stage.

CHRISTMAS FLORAL ARRANGEMENT

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut the Styrofoam to fit the basket. (Note: The Styrofoam has to fit the basket tightly and you need to cut smaller pieces and wedge them in to the spaces around the original rectangle. That gives a tight solid base to stick the arrangement in.) A large filler (pine branches) that forms the base of the arrangement is the first thing that is required. After that you need to carefully position the large flowers but keep in mind that they should be less in number. After the large flowers are fixed then comes the smaller flowers like the holly sprigs. If there are gaps then small fillers can be used to cover them up or fake moss or crepe paper can also be used to cover up the foam if its seen. You can also add decorative wrapping paper and tie with a bow if you desire. Work from top down but lift it and look at it from different angles as you work to see the effect. Don't be afraid to take flowers out and move them around till you're happy with the effect. Pick the ones you want to use carefully at the beginning to get a good color and texture combination. Have fun doing it, it's great to do in a group as you can give each other advice and trade flowers.

VALENTINES FLORAL ARRANGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut flowers from your garden in the morning before it gets too hot. Choose flowers that are not completely open so they will last longer in the arrangement. Use greenery if desired, such as tulip leaves, ferns or green leaves from your garden. Fill a bucket with warm water and mix in flower food. Cut the stems of your flowers at a 45degree angle, allowing them to better absorb the water. Place the flowers in the bucket and leave for at least one hour, or overnight if needed, stored in the refrigerator to keep fresh. Cut a square of cellophane wrap three times the height of our vase. If, for example, the vase is 6 inches tall, cut a piece of cellophane that is 18 inches by 18 inches. Cut a piece of 1-inch-wide ribbon twice the diameter of the vase. Set the vase in the middle of the piece of cellophane. Pull the edges of the cellophane up around the vase and tie the piece of ribbon around the cellophane about 1 inch down from the top of the vase. Fan out the edges of the cellophane. Fill the vase about 3/4 full of water and place the flowers in the vase. Arrange with the taller flowers in the center of the vase and add gradually shorter-length flowers out around the edges of the arrangement.

Add greenery or stems with leaves around the edges of the arrangement. A few pieces of greenery can be added sparingly between the flowers if desired. Add a handwritten note and place in between the flowers.

TRIANGULAR FLOWER ARRANGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Secure floral foam. Determine the vertical height and horizontal width with the smallest
line flowers and/or leaves. Make the height higher than the width. 2. Position the largest focal flowers in the heart of the arrangement and slightly lower to give weight and balance. 3. Fill in with the filler flowers and foliage keeping within the triangular shape.

OVAL FLOWER ARRANGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

1, Select a vase that is short and chunky for an oval arrangement. Although you can certainly purchase oval vases expressly for creating oval arrangements, any short container will do. Serving bowls, decorative glassware or recycled containers work well as vases. 2. Soak florist foam in warm water until it is saturated. Cut to the dimensions of the vase and place the foam in the bottom of the vase. Florist foam creates a stationary base for the arrangement and makes it easier to display blooms as desired. Tape the floral foam in place with a section of floral tape. Make and "X" over the top of the foam and secure to the rim of the vase. The tape will not be visible in the final arrangement. 3. Select background foliage or spiked flower stems to create the height of the arrangement. Generally, two to four tall stems are sufficient. Anchor the stems into the foam so they create an interesting spray at the back of the arrangement. Ferns or other lacy foliage work well, as do delicate spikes of flowers. Create the overall shape of the oval with light-colored flowers or foliage. 4. Place the focal flowers in the midsection of the arrangement. Two or three roses or other medium to large flowers create concentrated color. Fill in around the center flowers with smaller blooms in

similar color. Gradually fade to the palest blooms around the outer edges. Add leaves to balance the arrangement. 5. Display as a centerpiece or as an accent to any room. Keep the florist foam wet to prolong the life of your display

MINIMAL FLOWER ARRANGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

Think beyond the vase. This is key to finding the perfect container for a minimal floral arrangement. Choose a unique container for interest. Consider any open container for holding flowers. Even items that can't hold water can be used by placing a smaller vase, bottle or other container inside for your flower arrangement. Select your one single, elegant flower. Use a sharp knife to cut the flower. A sharp edge is needed for water and food absorption which will keep the flower looking nice longer. Create the flower arrangement using one single specimen flower with a small amount of greenery and filler. This makes an elegant minimal floral arrangement for any occasion. Use a flower frog, glass marbles or floral foam to hold the flower, foliage and filler flowers from shifting in the container. Display the flower arrangement in a cool location and out of direct sunlight, and away from large lights, heating vents, fireplace, stoves and other appliances.

CRESCENT FLOWER ARRANGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Secure foam in container. Determine length of crescent and insert curved line flowers or leaves to
follow the crescent form. Angle the shape to balance in the container. 2. Insert the focal flowers fairly low in the bowl to achieve balance,stability and depth.

3. Fill in around the focal flowers with smaller flowers and foliage. Place wisps of filler flowers that gracefully taper off the ends.

VERTICAL FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Wedge or secure foam in a vase with hot glue. Cut the stems of the tallest flowers or leaves to reach
three or four times the height of the vase. 2. Place the focal flowers vertically within the diameter of the vase. 3. Fill in the areas as needed with filler flowers.

INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Anchor the foam securely. Bend the stems gently into graceful curves and insert them in place so they balance. 2. Add the focal flowers following the lines of the upper and lower curves. 3. Cluster filler blossoms and foliage around the central flowers maintaining the rhythm of the S.
