Review - April 4th Normandy Park Cherry Tree Dedication

On Saturday, April 4th, thecommunity of South Ard-more and Ardmore Rotari-ans met in Normandy Parkfor the dedication of threeKwanza cherry trees as agift from the People of Ja-pan, as a gesture of good-will from the Rotary Club of Tokyo.The other 22 trees receivedwere planted in the Gardenfor the Blind in WynnewoodValley Park, Haverford Col-lege Arboretum, and LoomisElementary School in Mar-ple-Newtown.Rotarian Steve Shreiner andhis staff from Shreiner TreeService donated their pro-fessional services in obtain-ing and planting the trees.Rotarian Dr. Douglas Klepfergave a presentation on thehistory of the Rotary horti-cultural exchange program,which began in the early1970s with Ardmore Rotaryestablishing an AmericanDogwood Park of 300 treesplanted in the Imperial Gar-dens of Tokyo. In 2005,Ardmore Rotary donated anadditional 200 trees to thepark in the spirit of interna-tional cooperation and re-spect between the coun-tries. The Japanese Rotari-ans said that “The Spirit of the Flower binds the worldtogether.”

It wasboth fun and very success-ful.
