To identify the supply chain distribution of the company. To identify the material handling and warehouse management of warehouse. To identify the roll of paper packaging in the company.
1.2 PROBLEM AND ISSUE OF COMPANY Situational Audit Main problem that had faced by Utusan Melayu Malaysia Berhad (UMMB) company was about packaging and arrangement of roll paper in the warehouse. It is about less safe packaging of roll paper. When the roll paper sent to the company we had found that in most of times the roll paper often damaged, especially on the surface of the roll paper. Roll paper should have take a good care by packaging. As we know Utusan Melayu Malaysia Berhad (UMMB) just wrapping their surface of roll paper with the thin brown paper. It may easier for roll paper become damaged cause brown paper had a thin layer. Roll paper should have take good care by packaging, lack of packaging will cause of the roll paper easily get damage and company will be loss for it. Moreover, the roll paper is a most important thing to take care expecially for their quality because it is the main raw material to the company.
Secondly is about arrangement of roll paper in the warehouse. It can be seen where the roll paper is not systematically arranged. The warehouse is had not enough space for storing the amount of roll paper purchased for the year. The damaged of roll paper that unusing also store in same place with the roll paper may be used. The problems is lack of storing space. The warehouse had not enough space for storing all the roll paper in one times. The
arrangement of storing non effectively, it may happened of lack storing space in warehouse.
10
According to the UMMB research, the main sources of the problem that we had found that the less safe packaging of roll paper.
Packaging is the science, art, and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and used. Packaging also refers to the process of design, evaluation, and production of packages. Packaging can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. Packaging contains protects, preserves, transports, informs, and sells. In many countries it is fully integrated into government, business, institutional, industrial, and personal use.
Safely refers to the creation and use of guidelines for the production of uniform, interchangeable components, especially for use in daily production.
Mistake in less of packaging, out dated packaging always occurs in industry. When distribute items and goods, it will be closely to the risk that items and goods possibility to damage. For example, in Utusan they sent their roll paper from port to the warehouse using the truck and the roll paper just wrapped in thin brown paper and it might be less of safety to the internal roll paper. If has some shaking and wetting the roll paper will be easily damage because paper just had a thin layer.
According to the UMMB research, the another sources of the problem that we had found that the arrangement of the roll paper not systematic.
Warehouse management is a series of activities to plan, handle and control the inventory or stock to achieve the organizational objective of cost reduction.
The function of inventory and warehousing is to ensure that the needs of goods are available immediately upon request to enable continuous support to production or sales. Moreover, the efficiency in managing the inventory will determine the profitability of an organization.
Developing effective inventory control systems to reduce waste and stockout in manufacturing or service complex problems. The right amount of inventory is a necessary to the company. In addition, excessive inventory adversely affects financial performances.
All the manufacturing and services organizations are concerned with effective inventory planning and control. Inventory requires capital investment, handling and storage space. Although a firms operating costs and financial performance can be improved by reducing inventory , the risk of stockouts can be devastating to the customers. Therefore, companies must strike a delicate balance between inventory and customer services.
12
The roll paper that is sent to the company are often damaged, especially on the surface of the paper roll. Roll paper should have take good care by packaging, lack of packaging will cause of the roll paper easily get damage and company will be loss for it. This is because the paper roll that sent using the truck to the company just wrapped in brown paper thin and less safe for the internal of newsprint. Therefore, If has some shaking, wetting or rock the roll paper it will be easily damage and cant be using back. Others than that, it give problem on handling, the roll paper with proper packaging can be carried easily for loading and unloading by forklift. Lack of packaging for roll paper might be problem in handling for loading and unloading for the roll paper.
Therefore it may give some affect to the company such as less profit. Once the packaging for roll paper has not enough, it can affect the operation and company will get less profit for the sales. Thus, it can cause damage of roll paper and make problem in relationship with customers. The newspapers are some of the customers daily need for getting knowledge and update for the news that happened from it. Lack of packaging for roll paper will reduce the sales for customers and customers will not support the company if cannot get the paper daily. Moreover, there are many procedures that must be done if the paper roll damaged. This making delayed the operation of raw materials for processing for the days. In the event of damage to roll paper during the admissions process into a warehouse, several procedure must be taken to get the insurance. Even the company can claimed for the damaged roll paper to the insurance company it may be late for taking some procedure and give affect to the daily operation of the newspapers.
13
The unsystematic of arrangement in the warehouse also give a huge problems to the company. There are lack of space available in the warehouse (UMMB) . There are problems that had face by (UMMB) is sufficient to cover the amount of newsprint purchased for the year and for daily use. Therefore, can be seen where the roll paper is not systematically arranged and damaged newsprint arrangement also mixed with newsprint that be used. It may cause Lack of storing space. The store may not have enough space for storing all their roll paper. The arrangement of storing not effective, the space to store will be wasted and it happened lack of storing space in warehouse. This problem stems from the constraints of space in the warehouse storage of the paper roll. Therefore, the (UMMB) had to rent another warehouse site in Port Klang to meet newsprint. Costs such as rent warehouse, shipping and maintenance costs to be borne by the roll paper of (UMMB). This will cause the rate of annual budget (UMMB) will increase.
Warehousing refers to the activities involving storage of goods on a largescale in a systematic and orderly manner and making them available conveniently when needed. In other words, warehousing means holding or preserving goods in huge quantities from the time of their purchase or production till their actual use or sale. Warehousing is one of the important auxiliaries to trade. It creates time utility by bridging thetime gap between production and consumption of goods.Stored goods can include any raw materials, packing materials, spare parts, components, or finished goods associated with agriculture, manufacturing, maintenance equipment, packaging materials, work in progress and or commerce by Bill 2004.
Company also need to have knowledge and skill in the warehousing management to ensure goods layout are orderly and facilitate in/out process. According to James R Stock (2000) Companies also must need a knowledge of the method that can improve warehousing performance and a strategy for locating the goods.

Ream wrap can protecting the Utusan Melayu paper roll and board sheets against moisture and dirty they also enhance Utusan Melayu earning power through increased productivity. Besides that, if Utusan Melayu use ream wrap it also can help the company replace costly, non-recyclable curtain coating, poly-laminated linerboard and plastic bags in many applications.

2) Paper Roll Protectors Specifically designed to protect large rolls of paper can be stacked inside each other and reduce place easy to stored reduce damage caused by lift-trucks
Paper Roll Protectors is a simple solution for the expressed purpose of protecting valuable stored paper roll stock from lift truck damage. The protectors will protect on the damage caused by lift-trucks, wagons and carts in a crowded storage area. The fiberglass roll protectors are designed to be used with paper rolls stored in high traffic areas where damage is most likely to occur. We suggest Utusan Melayu might use services that are provided such as American
Paper Roll Protectors which the paper roll protectors are used nationally by paper mills, corrugators, warehouses and paper converters, printers, newspaper publishers, public
paper storage terminals. The roll protectors are heavy duty They have two hand-hold cutouts for easy handling and Fiberglass roll protectors are not recommended for use paper products. Furthermore, American Paper corrugators roll stock cost producers about printing rolls cost up to $ 5,000 each. Any
on tissue rolls or other personal Roll Protectors has told that 58"
savings for paper roll producers, corrugators, printers and others involved in the roll storage process.
37
Special Roll Paper Pallet can be use in Utusan Melayu according to customer need and also suitable roll stakker in warehouse. Other than that, it is easy to handle which makes it user-friendly, less weight, savings in transportation and easy to dispose. Besides that, special roll paper pallet also can help the company to making savings in recycling costs, no need fumigation for pallet and accepted anywhere in the world without restrictions. It has extremely high compression strength and allows rolls to be handled by standard forklift. The pallets can be spot glued to roll to eliminate strapping and are recyclable. Utusan Melayu may contact Greif Company for they services.
4) Paper Roll Protections Angle board inner diameter (I.D.) and outer diameter (O.D.) protectors protect roll edges; damage caused by overhead handling equipment, hooks, truck chains and cable tie downs. Angle board I.D / O.D. protectors are constructed with preformed right angles that are notched and scored to readily conform to the inner / outer paper rolls. Both I.D. and O.D. protectors are available in

5) Stretch Wrap Stretch Wrapping Delivers Superior Protection Stretch Wrapping Is Cost Effective Stretch Wrapping Is More Efficient Stretch Wrap Is Versatile
Stretch wrap or stretch film is a highly stretchable plastic film that is wrapped around items. The elastic recovery keeps the items tightly bound. In contrast, shrink wrap is applied loosely around an item and shrinks tightly with heat. Stretch wrap may help to avoid roll paper from damage. Stretch wrap material is linear low-density polyethylene or LLDPE, which is produced by copolymerization of ethylene with alpha-olefins, the most common of which are butane, hexane and octane. The use of higher alpha-olefins (hexane or octane) gives rise to enhanced stretch film characteristics, particularly in respect of elongation at break and puncture.

a) Narrow Aisle Pallet Rack (NA) In a narrow aisle rack configuration, the aisle is reduced to between 9-feet and 10-feet clear load-to-load and requires either a stand-up reach truck or a 3wheel fork truck. However, whenever rack is relocated, so must lighting and in-rack sprinklers if they are present in the existing configuration. In addition, new trucks must be purchased. A 10 to 15 percent gain in storage locations can be obtained.
b) Very Narrow Aisle Pallet Rack (VNA) In very narrow aisle rack, the aisle width is generally the load width plus six inches minimum. The actual width for a standard is (40 x48-inch) pallet operation would generally be 66 inches rack-to-rack. This allows for pallet overhang in the rack and sway in the truck mast to minimize damage.
41
c) Double-Deep Pallet Rack and Pushback Rack Double-deep and pushback rack can be applied when and if multiple pallets of the same stock keeping unit (SKU) exist in storage. The basic premise of double-deep rack is to put two sections of pallet rack back-to-back with only one access aisle. Pushback rack uses the same premise, except that the pallet moves on carts or rollers to the forward position upon removal of the forward pallet. In a wide aisle environment, double-deep or pushback sections may be created to add density. However, double-deep reach trucks for double-deep rack and standard stand-up reach trucks for pushback rack will be capable of operating in a typical narrow aisle environment if properly designed.
42
d) Pallet Flow Rack Pallet flow rack works well in multiple-pallet environments of single SKUs. The primary advantage is the elimination of aisles by allowing storage depths of three to 20 pallets on multiple levels. The primary disadvantage is the relative inflexibility to handle changing inventory requirements and rack cost ($200 to $350 per position). Pallet flow rack works best in case or full pallet distribution operations. e) Small Parts Storage One of the last changes to the warehouse is to move all less-than case-products from pallet rack locations, including decked rack, into shelving, drawers and vertical or horizontal carousels. This will open up locations for faster moving products and generally reduces the order picking labor associated with slow movers.
