Kingspan gains contract or landmarkbuilding in the City o London
Our RMG 600 ooring will beused on 18 oors of the 160metre high building, includingfour oors to be occupied bythe RSA Insurance Group. We are due to start work onsite at the end of August 2013and the building is on schedulefor completion in the secondquarter of 2014.20 Fenchurch Street has beeninformally referred to as theWalkie Talkie due to its highlydistinctive shape, making it‘are’ outwards, enabling oorspace to be maximised towardsthe top of the building.Designed by world renownedand award winning architect
Kingspan Access Floors has gained a contractrom Canary Whar Contractors Limited to supply48,000 sq m o fooring to 20 Fenchurch Street, the 38-storey landmark oce complex beingbuilt in the City o London.
Rafael Viñoly, the building isbeing developed by a jointventure of Land Securities andCanary Wharf Group. It will provide over 650,000 sqft of ofce space and will be astriking addition to the Londonskyline. The iconic tower willfeature a publicly accessiblesky garden, which will becomeLondon’s highest public greenspace. The gardens will span the topthree storeys, will be accessibleby two express lifts, and willinclude a viewing area, terrace, café, bar and restaurant.Fourteen double-deck lifts willserve the main ofce oors ofthe building.20 Fenchurch Street willincorporate low carbontechnologies, including a naturalgas fuel cell – the rst in theCity – and photo voltaic cellson the roof.It is designed and constructedwith high sustainabilitycredentials and is on track toachieve an “Excellent” BREEAMrating.

Kingspan...ning London with our fooring
From 1 July 2013, under theConstruction Products Regulation20111 (CPR), it becamemandatory for manufacturersto draw up a declarationof performance and applyCE marking to any of theirconstruction products that arecovered by a harmonisedEuropean standard (hEN) orconform to a European TechnicalAssessment (ETA) which hasbeen issued for it, when sucha product is placed on themarket.
The construction industry is acing the mostsignicant change or a decade in the way inwhich construction products are sold in Europe.
I a company tells you its raised fooringis CE marked, don’t believe it ...
By denition a constructionproduct is “any product or ‘kit’which is produced and placedon the market for incorporationin a permanent manner inconstruction works or partsthereof and the performanceof which has an effect on theperformance of the constructionworks with respect to the basicrequirements for constructionworks.”This is a major change asafxing of CE marking underthe provisions of the existingConstruction Products Directive(CPD) is currently voluntaryin the UK. For those alreadyCE marking under the CPDthe transition should bestraightforward.Because of this changeKingspan decided to take thelead in the raised ooringmarket and obtain CE Markingfor our products. However there is a considerablestumbling block in that thereis not a harmonised Europeanstandard (hEN) for raised oors. Some people are underthe misapprehension thatBSEN12825 is a harmonisedstandard for raised oors butthis is not the case – for astandard to be classied asharmonised it must have anAppendix Za, and BSEN12825does not have that Appendix.Appendix Za of a harmonisedstandard is the procedures andsystems for the verication ofconformity, i.e. the regulationgoverning which system is tobe used to verify conformity. This cannot be inuencedby those concerned (e.g.manufacturer, user).Until BSEN12825 becomes aharmonised standard (hEN) CEMarking cannot be achieved fora raised oor as there is nosystem/regulation to verify itagainst.
