Started in 2005 by siblings Greg Sutton and Marnee Brick, TinyEYE was initially created
as licensed software to help make the lives of Speech-Language Pathologists easier
while reaching remote areas that lack services. They soon found that remote areas
were not the only ones lacking proper speech and language services. The growing
Speech-Language Pathologist shortage, they found, was (and is) affecting major
centers as well. As such, the company has evolved to actually providing Speech-
Language Pathologists to school districts in need through telepractice.

strategy for the Province of Saskatchewan, co-founded the Saskatchewan Angel
Investor Network, and with his team grew the association to over 300 active corporate
members. Greg has a degree in commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and
oversees the day-to-day operations of TinyEYE.

consultant and supervisor for school boards, public health units, and medical centers in
Canada and the United States. At TinyEYE, Marnee is lead contributor to software

children a better tomorrow than they had yesterday and is an advocate for Speech
Therapy Telepractice.

Why is TinyEYE Important?

There is growing concern as the Speech-Language Pathologist shortage continues.
School districts are going for years without proper services and are offering large
signing bonuses/incentives to attract Speech-Language Pathologists. All the while,
many Baby Boomer Speech-Language Pathologists are retiring and too few are being
graduated out of Universities. TinyEYE’s services mitigate the problem by connecting

Speech-Language Pathologists to students without the need to physically be in the

same location.

What Exactly is Speech Therapy Telepractice?

To quote the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) official policy on

speech therapy teleractice,

“Telepractice is the application of telecommunications technology to deliver professional

services at a distance by linking clinician to client, or clinician to clinician for
assessment, intervention, and/or consultation. It is the position of the American Speech-
Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) that telepractice (telehealth) is an appropriate
model of service delivery for the profession of speech-language pathology. Telepractice
may be used to overcome barriers of access to services caused by distance,
unavailability of specialists and/or subspecialists, and impaired mobility. Telepractice
offers the potential to extend clinical services to remote, rural, and underserved
populations, and to culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

The use of telepractice does not remove any existing responsibilities in delivering
services, including adherence to the Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice, state and
federal laws (e.g., licensure, HIPAA, etc.), and ASHA policy documents on professional
practices. Therefore, the quality of services delivered via telepractice must be
consistent with the quality of services delivered face-to-face.”
