Volunteering as a Pathway to Employment Report

Volunteer Recognition Catholic Charities USA has expanded national recognition of volunteers in the Catholic Charities network. Each issue of Charities USA - the Catholic Charities network magazine will spotlight a volunteer who serves in a capacity related to the theme of the issue. The Winter 2013 theme is serving the vulnerable in life (unborn, terminally ill, frail elderly, severly disabled, etc.) The deadline for this issue is November, 18. For more information on nominating a volunteer, email Matthew Price. Catholic Charities USA created an award certificate template for agencies to honor volunteers. This award certificate expresses gratitude from CCUSA CEO/President Fr. Larry Snyder on behalf of the entire network. To access the award certificate template, email Matthew Price. Resource Library The resources from the old Catholic Charities USA website have been moved over to a third party website - Scribd. Browse forms, policies and training materials. This morning, attendees from the VMN will be browsing the website identifying deficits in the library. A call for resources will be announced in October.

Networking LinkedIn Group - The VMN steering committee has piloted the LinkedIn Group (a tool to help people network online

via shared discussions, profile information, job announcements, etc.). The group is now available for all VMN members to join. Log-in to your LinkedIn account, click this link and click join in the upper right corner. Please allow 24 - 48 hours for processing. Demographic breakdown - The VMN steering committee has created a survey for all current and future members. This survey will be used to identify sub-groups of members that share similar roles and responsibilities. Survey respondents will then choose how they want to be networked. Complete the survey by the end of September and be eligible for a $50 gift card. Coffee Break - The VMN steering committee has revamped the Coffee Break sessions. Originally developed to augment the webinars, the Coffee Breaks will now be a focus of a certain topic. Members from the VMN steering committee will share experiences with certain topics and callers can ask questions and provide answers for others on the call. Mark your calendars for Friday, November 8th at 11am eastern. The Coffee Break topic will be Innovative Recruitment Techniques. Bring your ideas to share and be ready for great tips in return!

Professional Development POWR Webinar - Daniel Sturm from the Parishes Organized to Welcome Refugees Program from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops shared about the POWR program and announced the upcoming application process. Stacey Dever from Cleveland Catholic Charities Migration & Refugee Services shared her best practices from running the POWR program. The webinar is recording can be viewed on the VMN youtube channel. Annual Gathering Recap Webinar - In October, there will be a recap of the Volunteer Management issues presented during the Annual Gathering. Stay tuned to the discussion list for more details.

VMN News Volunteer Management Software - A Consumer's Guide to Software for Volunteer Management Volunteer-based organizations have to keep track of a lot of data - for example, contact information, schedules, time sheets and job sites - and the right software can help, freeing time for engaging volunteers. There are a number of products available but it's surprisingly hard to find information about them.

Data Survey - 35 members responded to the survey and the VMN steering committee is pouring through the data. There is a lot of information to sort through and summarize. If anyone is interested in working on this project. Please contact Carol 'Spike' Spiker. Newsletter changes - Carol 'Spike' Spiker, a member of the steering committee, will be the new point person for the newsletter. Beginning in September, the newsletter will be disseminated on the 15th of each month. If you have articles/information that would benefit the network please send them to Spike.
