COMMON CORE STANDARDS ARE INFERIOR TO THE BEST STATE STANDARDS

Common Core is a vehicle for federal control over public education and they make local control a thing of the past. Common Core Standards cannot be changed by the state legislature or state school boards. Common Core Standards are an untested one-size fits all curriculum that will diminish parental and state control. Common Core Standards were not created not by teachers, but by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, with funding from a variety of special interest groups and businesses including the Gates Foundation. Common Core Standards will cost North Carolina an average of $75 million a year. National testing requirements drive up technology costs and require intrusive student level data tracking. Math Standards - Dr. James Milgram, the only mathematician on the Common Core Validation Committee, refused to sign off on the standards, he said students would not be ready for math at a university. English Language Arts (ELA) Standards Dr. Sandra Stotsky served on the Validation Committee, refused to sign off on the standards because of low quality, empty skill sets, de-emphasis on literature, low reading levels, no grammar, informational text assignments that include government propaganda Learn more and take action: stopcommoncorenc.org and ncleg.net
