Clinical Case Scenario

1. Lack of staff VS high number of patients In Barangay De Dios, Nurse Kiko and Ben is the only nurse in the health center, catering for about 300 patients a day for consultation with a total of 150,000 clients in the barangay and every end of their shift they feel very exhausted. They ask their supervisor if they can hire another 2 nurses for the health center but the supervisor refuses their request because of lack of nurses. Ideally the ratio should be 1:20,000 2. Defective Equipment Patient Nerry and her 3 month old daughter came in to the health center for monthly check-up. Nurse Perry is assigned to weigh the baby but the only weighing scale is not working and the monthly check up and consultation of other babies is interrupted. Nurse Perry raised her concern to the supervisor and advised to get some money in the donation box and buy another weighing scale after her duty. 3. Staff behavior on tardiness Nurse Gene is always late to his morning shift. It is evident that he is sleepy during his shift and has darkened circles to his eyes, Nurse Conde is very worried about his colleague and he decided to raise the concerned to their supervisor. The supervisor arranges to meet with Nurse Gene and clarifies what is the problem and made some modifications like making his own schedule. 4. Lack of staff motivation The supervisor of the health center of Barangay Uno has a quarterly survey on his staffs; he concluded that one of his staffs got a low grade and bad comments. He arranges to meet this staff and discuss the problem. The staff wishes to resign because he is not happy anymore on his job because of insufficient salary, the supervisor raised this concern to the administrator and studies its interventions. 5. Cultural diversity Nurse Joe is a community health nurse in Barangay San Jose, and patient Joey came in the health center and consulted for his tonsillitis. Patient Joey is homosexual and Nurse Joe is assigned to patient Joey but in the religion of Nurse Joe, they are not allowed to communicate with homosexual, he raised his concern to his supervisor and asks to follow their religious belief. The supervisor allowed him not to care for that patient but the condition of the supervisor is if the patients risk is greater, Nurse Joe should care for that patient.
