Arkhangai (Mongolian: Архангай, Northern Khangai)

is one of the 21 Aimags (provinces) of Mongolia. It is


located slightly west to the country's center, on the
northern slopes of the Khangai Mountains. Unill 1923
the region of Arkhangai was inside Sain Noyon Khan
aimag, which was established in 1725. After the
“People’s Revolution” in 1923 Tsetserleg Mandal Uul
aimag was established on the foundation of Sain Noyon
Khan aimag. Arkhangai aimag was formed from parts of
the Tsetserleg Mandal Uulyn aimag in 1931. The aimag
center Tsetserleg was established at the site of the Zaya
Khüree monastery, which was first founded in 1586.
