Greetings!
HappyElectionSeason,everyone! Wehopeyou'reexcitedasweareabouttheGeneralElectiononNovember6th.We'vebeen workingnonstoponvoteroutreachprojects,includingAPALC's'YourVoterMatters!2012' campaign,whichwascreatedtoencouragetheAPIcommunitytogetoutthevote.Wealsohelda voterinformationeventattheGrandPlazaSeniorCenteronOctober17thandassistedover100 individualswithvoterregistration,absenteeballotinformation,andmore.Pleasereadmoreabout oureffortsbelow. Inthemidstofallourhardwork,wearehappytoannouncethatwehaveacceptedfournew internsfromUSC'sPriceSchoolofPublicPolicy.LanChen,HailingWang,WenyiZheng,and XiuzhiWangareinternationalstudentsfromChinawhoareseekingdegreesinthefieldsof PublicAdministrationandPublicPolicy.Theywillbewithusfortheentireyear,soifyouseethem around,say'Hi!' 'Your Vote Matters! 2012' Campaign with APALC

We'vebeenworkingwiththeAsianPacificAmericanLegalCenter(APALC)forits"YourVote Matters!2012"civicengagementcampaignsinceSeptember.Thisprogramwaslaunchedto empowerandmobilizecommunitymemberstoexercisetheirvoiceattheballotboxatthe November6thGeneralElection.CAUSEisoneofthemanynonprofitscollaboratingwithAPALC togetmembersoftheAPIcommunityouttovote.Scrolldowntoseewhatwe'vebeendoingto helpwiththecampaign. OureffortsaredependentnotonlyonCAUSEStaff,butonvolunteersaswell!We'redelightedto saythatwithinthepastmonthwe'vebeengainingagreatgroupofvolunteerstohelpuswiththis project,andwewouldliketotakethetimetothankthemforalloftheirefforts!

What we've been up to...

Phonebanking: Werecruitedover20volunteerstohelpuswithphonebankingeffortsthathavebeenheldatthe APALCandCAUSEoffices.Asoftoday,APALCandotherpartneringorganizationshave contactedover30,000APIvotersthroughoutLosAngelesandOrangeCounty.

Electionforum:

OnOctober1st,wehostedBillSchneider,formerseniorCNNpoliticalanalyst,foranelection forumregardingtheGeneralElection.Duringhistalk,hesharedhisperspectivesonthe presidentialdebates,propositions,andmore.Ifyoumissedit,youcanwatchthevideorecap here!Also,youcanviewphotosfromtheeventhere!

SeniorOutreach: OnOctober17th,weheldoursecondvoterinformationanddimsumreceptionattheGrandPlaza SeniorCenter. ThisfreeeducationalsessionwasgearedtowardChinesespeakingadultsandtheelderlywho wereseekingeasilyaccessibleinformationaboutvoterregistrationandvoterreregistration,in additiontoabsenteeballotinformation,ballotpropositionsandotherinformationregardingthe November2ndGeneralElection. ThevoterinformationsessionwasconductedinbothEnglishandChinese(Cantoneseand Mandarin)andbeganwithanoverviewonthevotingprocessandballotmeasures,followedbya questionandanswersessionanddimsumreception.CAUSEheldasimilarvoterinformation eventonMay18ththatcoveredtheJune5thPrimaryElection. WerecentlyacceptedfourinternationalstudentsfromUniversityofSouthernCalifornia's(USC) SolePriceSchoolofPublicPolicy'sGraduateProgramintoitsnewlydevelopedExecutive InternshipProgram.ThefourstudentshailfromdifferentpartsofChinaandareinterestedin studyingdifferentareasinpublicpolicy.Theyarelistedbelowbyname,hometown,previous educationalinstitution,andgraduatefocus: LanChen:QingzhenintheGuizhouProvinceShanghaiUniversityMasterof PublicAdministration Hailing"Helen"Wang:YantaiintheShandongProvinceUniversityofHong Kong,MasterofPublicAdministration Wenyi"Mary"Zheng:ShanghaiUniversityofInternationalBusinessand Economics(Beijing)MasterofPublicAdministration Xiuzhi"Lizza"Wang:WuhuintheAnhuiProvinceTsinghuaUniversity (Beijing)MasterofPublicPolicy Thesegraduatestudentsareinterestedinaffectingchangeandreformbyexperimentingwith variousfieldswithinthenonprofitsector:Chenisinterestedineducation,withafocuson improvingthequalityoflifeofyouthsthroughtheavenueoftheartsHailingWangisalso interestedinthefieldofeducation,inadditiontohealthcareandimmigrationZhengwantsto learnmoreabouttheAmericanpoliticalprocessandAmericancultureduringherstayinthe UnitedStatesandXiuzhiWangwantstogainexperienceintheareasofeducationandregional economicdevelopment. ThefourareworkingontheirfirstevervoteroutreachprojectintheUnitedStates.Theirfirst projectentailsassistingtheCAUSEstaffwiththeAsianPacificAmericanLegalCenter's(APALC) "YourVoteMatters!2012"campaign.TheyarehelpingtoprovideinlanguageassistancetoAPI votersthroughphonebanking,pollmonitoring,andthetranslationofvotereducationmaterials. ThisExecutiveInternshipisaprogramthatnotonlyaimstoteachstudentsvitalleadershipand professionaldevelopmentskills,butalsoaimstoacclimatestudentstoAmericanculture,focusing onsuchareaslikepoliticalandofficeculture.Studentstypicallymeetfor10hourseachweekand workwithCAUSEstafftocompleteprojectsandtasks.Theywillalsobecollaboratingona researchprojectthatexploresapublicpolicyrelatedissueoftheirchoice.
