In fact a recent three volume systematic theology, by Thomas Oden, is based on the premise that the
"ecumenical consensus" of the first millennium should be normative for theology [see, The Living God:
Systematic Theology Volume One, (New York: Harper & Row, 1987), pp ix xiv.]. If only Oden takes his own
methodology all the way, he too will become Orthodox.
