The Student Opportunity Fund Mid-Year Review


On behalf of the Faculty of Health Sciences Students Council and our three program councils, we want to thank all of you for your involvement within the Faculty this year. 2013 has brought forth many changes including the referendum and implementation of the Student Opportunity Fund (SOF). We want to remind you that these funds are allocated to make your education worthwhile and to support endeavours outside of the traditional classroom setting. For our first round of applications, we helped: ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Spearhead the Health Sciences First Year Crest Initiative. Send a student delegation to the Canadian Nursing Student Association (CNSA) Conference in Vancouver, BC. Send a student delegation to the Early Years Conference in Vancouver, BC. Committed to provide a stipend for any Health Studies student selected to intern for the WHO. Send 2 students to the National Health Leadership Conference in Banff, AB. Send students to other conferences including: The Ivey Global Health Conference, Queens Conference on Philanthropy, and the Careers in Aging Conference. Spearhead a Faculty-wide Standard First Aid/CPR-C and Recertification event. Kinesiology Scholarship Plaques Name Bars Fund the iPod Project Subsidize KIN 4473 Sport and Physical Education" Class to Cuba Subsidize health-related global volunteer programs. Subsidize Faculty and Program events: Soph Team ($3,500), FHS Formal ($2,000), FHS Games ($4,500), Kin Formal ($10,000), Kin Games ($1,300), and KSC Volleyball Tournament ($550). Fund for new materials for the International Centre for Olympic Studies. Fund high profile guest speakers and artists. We aspire to continue helping facilitate experimental learning within the Faculty. If theres an opportunity out there, whether it be a conference, unpaid internship, research, global volunteerism, or hosting an event, go for it, and know that your Faculty is there to support you.
