1. Welcome Everyone The speaker called the meeting to order at 6:07 2. Western School Song 3. Roll Call Roll Call done by Deputy Speaker Nicola 4. Adoption of Agenda Motioned by Maha, Seconded by Justin Toth 5. Presentations to Council Associate Dean Dr. Kevin Wamsley Congratulations to council and introduction to Neil Fulford. This council is very important in its representation of all the Health Sciences students. Council works in accordance with the Deans office for events to increase success. New initiatives are in place this year to counter stress for first year students and more services are being offered. New 1 hour mandatory seminar is happening for first year students to give helpful hints and introductions (academic penalties if not attended). A mandatory brief counselling service is also being offered for all first years at the start of the year. The Faculty of Health Sciences is strong with 6 strong schools beneath it and we must all work together and be well connected. The Deans office is always here to support this council and provide it with necessary resources. Council Introduction Laura Crich Thank you all for coming and a big welcome to all members. Council etiquette is very important especially social media and what is posted and all council members need to be more aware. Thank you to all those who have worked hard all summer in preparation for this year and brief introductions on individuals who have been involved. We are going to be working on the SOF strongly this year. 4:30 at the wave before next meeting is the council dinner all council members can join. Office hours have begun and all council members should sign up for a time. The council office is all cleaned and updated after summer. VP Portfolio Introductions I. Communications Jessica Chin Like us on Facebook and Twitter. Initiatives which have been done so far this year are the FHS Pulse, Website Updates, Merchandise (examples are presented and these are currently being sold during office hours) Currently Homecoming Clothing, Promotion, FHS Pulse blog, and

Website cleanup are being worked on. II. Student Events Kristen Crane Homecoming event will include pancakes and are looking for volunteers and a DJ. A welcome event is currently being planned for possibly October 2nd at Ceeps for students. There is going to be the 2nd annual Health Science Formal. Ideas are still being generated (theme?). The FHS games are to take place January 10th/11th. A yoga break and soccer portion are possible ideas to be implemented this year. Yoga Rave is an event FHS is going to do with the Dream Team in the spring. There are other FHS events coming throughout the year stay tuned. Student Affairs Morgan Jennings Fall Preview Day and March Break Open House need council involvement. The Health Sci Wiki is still in the works and subcommittee members are needed hopefully the site will be launched in 2nd semester. Change Camp is a new initiative this year to bring together faculty members and students. A guest speaker will be coming this year. Prof and TA meet and greets. 3-minute thesis is trying to be incorporated at the undergraduate level. SOF will be used in this portfolio to implement conferences, grad student prep, internships, TA training. Finance Sumer Akbar Contact Sumer if you need anything in regards to re-imbursements through council. The SOF allows for more events and resources and allows students to give back and take opportunities. Sumer is the Chair is the Finance committee and will be looking for other members to assist in the allocation of money. Dream Team Jacqueline Spain Orientation with Make a Wish is tomorrow September 13th. A coffee house and Yoga Rave is being planned as fundraisers

Presentations from Program Councils I. Health Studies Fazi Toor Introductions of council members. Social media will be a big focus this year. There will be a Health Studies yearbook. Socials are also in the works (Barking Frog night, Music Bingo at the Spoke). A Mock Anatomy Bellringer will hopefully be organized. Course description videos are looking to be created that would be included on the Health Sci Wiki. A career panel and Co-curricular resume will also be implemented. II. Nursing Justin Toth Nursings goal is to raise awareness and increase participation. New sweaters have been designed. Kinesiology Kristan Collins Many of the same initiatives are being done this year dodgeball event. A new charity event is being added. A facebook page will be created so

Maybe there should be different levels of donation. Many students were unprepared for their first class and how they were run. Student representatives from other faculties are in residence. Come to him Andrew you have any questions or want to know more about Senate. Deans Office Neil Fulford The deans office will need council volunteers throughout the year. The Ontario University fair is coming up in order to talk to students about the Health Science student experience. The deans office wants to work through council to give future students the student perspective of Western. A big

congratulation from the Dean Jim Weese on the o-week successes. Head Soph Joseph will speak at next meeting Commissioners/Coordinators (Website, Social Media and Publications, FHS Games, Programming, Merchandise) Website updated over summer.
