Whereas the previous chapter developed Ezras narrative portrait of God, the focus of the present chapter is on the Returnees. The primar themes Ezra develops relating to the Returnees are continuit with pre!e"ilic #srael, the importance of holiness, and hope for the future. $f these three, this chapter delineates Ezras dominant concern for holiness.
