Overview
Feature Introduction
Every cell under the management of ZXG10 BSS can acquire the authority to activate the Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) service through configuration. Flexible configuration mechanism enables operators to determine whether to activate EDGE or retain existing functions based on user demands in every cell.

Technical Description
Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS) adopts an 8-PSK modulation mode, which enhances data throughput capability and delivers faster transmission rates for users. ZTE BSS is already EGPRS-capable in terms of hardware. It also supports flexible setting of EGPRS in terms of software. The activation of EGPRS is cell-based, that is, if a cell is set to Support EDGE, all users in this cell can initiate EGPRS. ZTE BS S allocates radio and ABIS resources based on user requests and cell configurations to support the high rate data service. Therefore, operators can activate or deactivate the EGPRS function based on their actual needs. This realizes more flexible configuration and more appropriate resource utilization.

Engineering Guide
Application Scenario
This function is applicable to the places where the activation of EDGE service is required.

6.2

Configuration Description
The precondition for activating this function is that the Gb interface of iBSC is normally activated. This function requires the BTS carriers to support EDGE (At present, some old carriers of V2 BTS do not support EDGE).

6.3

Network Impacts
Impacts on network The EDGE imposes strict requirements for radio environment and system capacity. The rate of MCS4 is lower than that of CS4, so forced activation of EDGE may achieve negative effects. If the current network cannot support EDGE activation in all cells, you

may activate EDGE in some cells to make full use of resources without any impact on network. Impacts on NEs This function has no direct effect on NEs, but after activation of EDGE, more resources are needed, including PDCHs, ABIS links and PCU modules. In addition, you need to check whether the original radio environment can meet the new coding requirements.
