Place: Manila Innovations: LED Lamp Portable DC Generator or 2BIG POWER and Tubig-powered Machine Description: Stevenson Steve

Rejuso invented the LED Lamp Portable DC Generator or simply known as 2BIG POWER. The invention generates electricity and enables to light its LED bulb using water as a fuel. Along with 2BIG POWER, he also invented the Tubig-powered Machine prompted with the shortage of electricity in their area. The device can light a flashlight, a lamp post, charge batteries and battery pack of cellular phones or even power a transistor radio and can light a village for two weeks. Same with his 2BIG POWER, it generates electricity using water. 2BIG POWER is safe to use compared to the candles and oil lamps as source of light. It is more economical and environment-friendly. On the other hand, Tubig-powered Machine is now functioning at Brgy. Greater Lagro, Quezon City, Metro Manila. His inventions are very useful especially in areas where electricity is scarce. He is aiming to reach far-flung places of the Philippines where service of electricity is not available.

Anti-Cancer Skin Cream

In 2005, Filipino inventor Rolando de la Cruz claimed to have invented a skin cream that combats skin cancer. At the International Inventors' Forum in Nuremberg, Germany, that year, his skin cream was judged the most significant invention of that year. The cream contains cashew nuts and other simple herbs and is intended to treat basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The skin cream has proven to be successful in 16 out of 39 documented cases, with more tests currently underway. The skin cream was also recognized at the 93rd Annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in New Orleans.

Solar-Powered Incubator

Members of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology at the University of the Philippines Los Baos developed an incubator that can help duck eggs to develop into balut --- that is, a fertilized egg --- while being fueled by solar power. The machine covers an area of about 5 square meters. Heat emanates primarily from a solar-powered water heater, with photovoltaic cells to regulate the heat inside the incubator. The machine could double the income of Filipino farmers.

Mole Remover

Rolando de la Cruz also developed a mole remover made from cashew nuts. The remover can be used without surgery. In September 2000, de la Cruz won a gold medal at ITEX, an international invention, innovation, industrial design and technology exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, run by the Malaysian Invention & Design Society.

Vaznbuilt

Filipino inventor Edgardo Vazquez created a modular housing system known as Vazbuilt. A Vazbuilt house can be created within weeks and possesses a design that's resistant to

typhoons and earthquakes. In 1995, Vazquez was awarded a gold medal by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for his invention.

SMS reader for the Blind A group of four engineering students from the De La Salle University invented the SMS reader, a device that allows the blind to read and send text messages. The prototype is composed of a black box with a Braille display that mimics the interface of a mobile phone. A data cable is connected to a slot in the black box. Solar powered Balut maker The College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology at the University of the Philippines-Los Banos has invented a solar "balut" maker. Engineer Fernando Paras Jr. said the machine, which covers an area of five square meters, is actually an incubator that can process duck eggs into embryonated eggs or balut for 15 to 17 days. Traditionally, balut makers in Pateros have been using electricity for incubation. The new invention is a two-way solar-powered system, with the solar water heater serving as the primary heat source while the photovoltaic cells serve as the auxiliary heat source regulating the temperature inside the incubator. The machine can process up to 4,000 eggs at the same time. This can double the income of farmers.
