This Week, CRS Rice bowl invites us to enter into solidarity with the people of Guatemala. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, rights and responsibilities, and reminded that as Christians, we are called to uphold and protect the basic rights of others. PASTORAL CORNER
March 16, 2014
In the readings for the first Sunday of Lent, last week and the readings for the second Sunday of Lent this week, there is a lot of movement. By Sunday Jesus is led into the desert by the Spirit. This week Abram is told to pick up everything and move to a strange land; and Jesus and three of his disciples climb a mountain. The people who inhabit our readings are all people of faith. What can we conclude from this? We can conclude that faith means movement and movement means flight. There are six directions that faith can take us, six directions that can lead us to faith. Up and down, backward and forward, inward and outward. We can find Christ in any and all of these directions. We are, in fact, surrounded by Christ. No matter where we are, what we are doing, or the direction that we are going Christ is with us, Christ is among us, Christ is within us. In a real sense we cannot escape Christ because he is present to us and loves us unconditionally; but we can be totally oblivious to his presence.
Christ Be With Me
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,Christ on my right, Christ on my left,Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I arise,Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,Christ in the mouth of every one who speaks to me,Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.Salvation is of the Lord.Salvation is of the Christ.May your salvation, Lord, be ever with us. We can say this prayer many times. We can believe this prayer with all our heart. However it takes faith and trust to take one step in any of the six directions. As St. Paul says, Prayer without work is useless. We must have not only faith and trust but have the expectation that in taking the step we will meet the risen Christ both within ourselves and in others. If we are seeking the Christ we will find Him. Our Lenten journey toward Easter is about removing whatever obstacle that prevents us from taking anyone of the six steps necessary. May we support one another in seeking and living with the risen Christ.
A big thank you to all the blood donor volunteers that came out last Friday. Your donation for the Lenten season has helped changed lives and save one. God recognizes your charitable work. Our Parish and Red Cross thank you.
POPE FRANCIS: If you haven't been to confession recently, don't wait. One may walk into the
confessional with a heavy heart, but forgiveness brings freedom and lightness. If a lot of time has passed, don't lose even one more day. Go---the priest will be good. Jesus will be there and he's even nicer than the priest. Be courageous. Go to confession. Even just on a human level in order to vent, it's good to speak to a brother, confessing to the priest these things that weigh so heavily on your heart. Don't be afraid of confession." Pope Francis--- following up on talks about Baptism, Communion and Confirmation---said, Those sacraments give new life--- but sin eats away at that new life and can destroy it, which is why Jesus gave his disciples the power to forgive sins in the name of God and the Christian community. At St.Philip Neri----Saturdays at 5pm or by appointment.
