2006.002.0014 Civil War Letters Wing Family Camp Adirondack Washington April 19th 1863 Dear father.

. your letter of the 14 inst we rec'd on friday of last week and with pleasure I now answer it. Although under marching orders for over a week as yet we have not gone but we expect to go every day. Report about Camp says the reason we have not gone before. is that the transports have been busy conveying Artillery & I and that is all that has kept us here. There are now several transports in dock and a great many have infered from that we would receive marching orders immediately, but there can be very little dependence placed on Camp reports. But if we are ordered off I shall manage to, or else have Edd, drop you a line. As regards your writing. you can write and direct as before to Washington for the letters will follow the regiment We are constantly kept on drill. Forenoons we drill by battalion; afternoons either Companys drill or else skirmish drill. The weather is very fine and things look as though Gen. Hooker must soon make a moove. no dout he is waiting for the 118th. I saw Col Richards this forenoon. He looks quite smart and we are all in hopes he will resume command. of the regiment. Mrs. Capt. Norris I think starts for home this evening. If so I will hand this to her. She has had a chance to see us drill both by company and regiment. Therefore she can inform you concerning how we look. drill. behave C I have spoken very little wl with her for I am not acquainted with her. By receiving this you will see we have not gone to North Carolina yet. I think we are as apt to join Gen. Hooker as any one. but we know nothing about where we will go But where ever we do go I hope you may hear a good account of us. On drill and on dress parade our regiment turns out big I suppose we number the most men of any regiment about these parts. I have to go and wash all over this afternoon and it is about the time I was off. I shall take my bath in a brook that runs by our encampment. Remember me to all love to all aff your son G. H. Wing
