! ! The Australian Flag


The ag of Australia is a blue eld with the Union Jack in the the top left hand corner and a large white seven-pointed star known as the Commonwealth Star in the lower left corner. The ag also contains the representation of the Southern Cross Star Constellation, made up of ve white stars - one small ve pointed star and four larger seven pointed stars. !

! The Aboriginal Flag

The Aboriginal Flag is a ag that represents Australian Aboriginals. It is one of the ofcial ags of Australia, however it is not the Australian National Flag. It was designed in 1971 by Aboriginal artist Harold Thomas, who is descended from the Luritja people of Central Australia.The ag was originally designed for the land rights movement, and it became a symbol of the Australian Aboriginal people. It is horizontally divided into a black region (above) and a red region (below).A yellow circle is in the centre of the ag.! - Black: Represents the Aboriginal people of Australia.! - Red: Represents the red earth, the red ochre and the spiritual relation to the land.! - Yellow: Represents the Sun. !

The Coat Of Arms


The Coat of Arms of Australia (formally known as Commonwealth Coat Of Arms) is the ofcial symbol of Australia. The initial Coat of Arms was granted by King Edward the 7th on the 7 May 1908, and the current version was granted by King George the 5th on 19 September 1912. The Shield is the focal point of the Coat of Arms, contained within is the badge of each Australian state, the whole surrounded by a border representing the federation of the states. !

! ! State Symbols
ACT-! The current state ag of the ACT was ofcially adopted by the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly in 1993. The ag differs from the other Australian state ags as it does not have the British Union Jack. It is a vertical 1:2 bicolour of blue with the Southern Cross and gold with the ACT Coat of Arms which are blue and white Swans.!

The Red Kangaroo and the Emu that support the shield are the ofcial animal emblems of the nation. It is often claimed these animals were chosen because neither animal cannot move backwards, only forward - i.e. progress. In the background is wreath of the Golden Wattle, the ofcial National oral emblem.!

NSW-! The current state ag of NSW was ofcially adopted by the government of New South Wales in 1876. The ag has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge centred on the right half of the ag. The badge, based on the British Coat of Arms, is a white disc with the Cross of St George, a golden lion in the centre of the cross and an eight-pointed gold star on each arm of the cross.!

QLD-! The ag Of QLD has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge centred on the right half of the ag. The current design came into use in 1953, when the crown on the badge was changed to St Edwards Crown. !

VIC-! The ag of Victoria has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge centred on the right half of the ag. The state badge is the Southern Cross topped by an imperial crown, which is currently St Edward's Crown. The stars of the Southern Cross are white and range from ve to eight points with each star having one point pointing to the top of the ag. The ag dates from 1865, with minor variations, the last of which was in 1953.!

WA-! The current state ag of Western Australia was ofcially adopted by the government of Western Australia in 1953. The ag has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge centred on the right half of the ag. The badge is a gold disc with a native Black Swan, with the swan facing towards the Union Jack. The black swan has long been a symbol of Western Australia, in fact the! original colony was called the Swan River Colony at the location which is now Perth. !

SA-! The current state ag of South Australia was ofcially adopted by the government of South Australia in 1904. The ag has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge centred on the right half of the ag. The badge is a gold disc featuring a Piping Shrike with its wings outstretched. The badge is believed to have been originally designed by Robert Craig, a teacher from the School of Arts in Adelaide and was ofcially gazetted on 14 January 1904.!

NT-! The current state ag of the Northern Territory was ofcially adopted by the Northern Territory Government in 1978. The Northern Territory has been in existence since 1911, but could not hoist it's rst ag until self-government in 1978. It is a vertical 1:2 bicolour black background and white Southern Cross and remainder of ag is ochre with a stylised Desert Rose. !

TAS-! The current state ag of Tasmania was ofcially adopted following a proclamation by Tasmanian Governor Sir Fredrick Weld on 25 September 1876, and was gazetted the same day. The ag has the British Union Jack in the top left hand quarter with the state badge of a red lion on a white disc centred on the right half of the ag.!

! ! Australia Day

Australia Day is the ofcial national day of Australia and is celebrated annually on 26 January. It marks the anniversary of the arrival of the rst eet at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and raising of the British ag in 1788. In modern Australia, celebrations reect the diverse society and landscape of the nation, and is marked by community and family events, reections on Australian history, ofcial community awards and citizenship ceremonies welcoming new immigrants into Australian community.!

! ! ANZAC Day
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conicts, and peacekeeping operations. On the 25th April every year we honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War 1. !
