NAB presents NSU Idol auditions Ashley Duke TNE writer

NSU students have the opportunity to showcase their talent with NSU Idol. Those who are vocally talented can audition to be selected to perform on stage and possibly gain the title of NSU Idol winner for 2014. My favorite thing about participating in NSU Idol was the overall experience, said Jordyn Patton, Verdigris junior. I enjoyed meeting new people and getting to sing with them. I really loved performing in front of a live audience and showing off my talent as a singer. NSU Idol is an annual event presented by the Northeastern Activity Board. NAB puts on NSU Idol every year because it is an entertaining event for NSU students and it gives singers the chance to prove their skills, said Dakota Hoover, concert chairmen of NAB.

Auditions for NSU Idol are April 1-2. Hoover said that judges are looking for contestants that have a good amount of energy and show a great vocal performance. My advice to students who are interested in participating in NSU Idol would be to go out there and have fun, said Brittany Pearsall, Pryor senior. It is supposed to be a fun experience, so let your nerves work in your favor and bring a presence to the stage. I would also suggest to practice in front of a group of people to prepare. The more practice, the more comfortable the contestant will feel performing. Three instructors from the music department will judge the contestants as they perform on stage. Students have the option to incorporate instruments into their act. Contestants will be placed in categories of first, second and third place. First place winners will receive a tuition waver of $100. My favorite thing about NSU Idol was that I was able to break out of my shell on stage, said Pearsall. I had only played for a crowd a couple times before so it was nerve racking, but one of the best experiences I have had in college so far. I was overjoyed when I won. NSU Idol is 7 p.m., April 24, at the Second Century Plaza. Every time I go to NSU Idol I am amazed I what I see, said Alix Wells, Poteau senior. There is always so much hidden talent and I love watching my classmates perform. It is also really fun to get a big group of friends together and go to a free event. I think it is a must for students to attend each year. For more information, email Hoover02@nsuok.edu. Published 3/25/14
