APRIL MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND
ANNUAL CHARITY AWARDS DINNER
Once again Our Local Union was honored with General President James P. Hoffa attending our
Annual Charity Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 31",2001 and our General Membership Meeting on
Sunday, April 1".
Our Annual "Teamsters Care" Charity Awards Dinner, which is held to benefit the Center for the
Disabled and various other charities, raised over $75,000.00 this year and over $250,000.00 to date.
Guest of Honor, General President James P. Hoffa, was this year's "Labor Initiative Award Recipient",
along with Linda Angello, Director to the Governor's Office of Employee Relations wbo received the
"Government Service Award" and George R. Hearst Il l, Vice President & Associate Publisher - Times
Union wbo received the "Community Service Award". Mr. Hearst was unable to attend, however, his
Awa rd was accepted by Michael Cipollo, President of Teamsters Local 126, who represents the mailers at
the Times Union.
This is the first time in our Local Union history that we have had a General President attend our
membership meetings, two years in a row! President Hoffa spoke on the many issues challenging our
International and Local Unions, however, he stressed that the "state of the Teamsters Union is strong"
and at our 26 th International Convention in Las Vegas (to be held the last week of June) the motto will he
"BUILDING BETTER LIVES... TOGETHER." The pictures below show General President Hoffa

Jerry shared some information about the ~amst ers lind
their history. I would have liked to see more of that , it

member, and when Williams Press closed, all he talked
about was how the Union failed.
Being a Class B drlver for many years, I knew a Jot about
the log books and the hours of service. Any change-s over the
years should be brought to ou r attention: memos,
newsletters. This will also go for DOT regulations.
Working for Albany Ladder , already work for the
trucking industry. I also thin k , could move to another job
without a problem.
Yes, , believe that I got enough road rime, I think some
docking and driving with a loaded trailer is what I could
have used some time on . The driving, braking and turning
will be different.
Dave and Jerry did a great job of get1ing us information,
a n d I was very comfortable with them . The course was fun,
any time you call "bust" with your instructors it has to be
fun. By the way, could you pass on to Dave that I got new
blocks for my feet and to Jerf"} I am sorry that he is the on Iy
person to get a complaint from a passing driver he cut off.
Again, THANK YOU for the opportunity to take this
course, it WI\S Iun and 1 received II lot of knowledge.

RETIREE'S CLUB 12TH ANNUAL PICNIC SCHEDULED


FOR SATURDAY, JULY 21ST
Our very active Retirees Club, which has over 450 members, will be hosting their annual picnic on Saturday, July
21",2001 at the Colonie Elks Club in Latham beginning at 12:00 noon. This picnic, which includes spouses, has a
tremendous turnout each year and everyone who attends is guaranteed a wonderful day. If you are interested in
attending and/or joining our Retirees Club please contact Henrietta "Hank" at our office at 469-5436.

$300.00 scholarships to member 's children who are

established in memory of Business Agent, Kevin
Hunter's daughter, Trtcia. Our hope is to
eventually increase the amount of these
schola rships, Th is year's rcciprients (who are
pictured on this page) are the following:
Maria C. Lizzi, daugter of Cindy who is employed
by the Colonie School District. Maria is attending
LeMoyne College this fall.
Janet Baker, daughter of Ronald, employed by
Washington County Department of Public Works.
Janet is attending Hartwick College.
Melissa L. McQuade. daughter of Paul who is
employed by Quality Carriers. Melissa is planning
on attending Marist College in the fall.
Alan Burke, son of Alan, employed by UPS.
Samantha Eissing, daughter of Joe who is
employed by Allied Systems. She is planning on
attending Maria College this fall.
