Configuration
1.1 Mitsubishi FX2N
Mitsubishi FX series are compact PLC. They connect to the computer through
serial link. As the FX protocol evolved through versions WebAccess has
di!!erent drivers to connect to the di!!erent Models.
The FX PLC contain potential connection ports. The programming port is the
only one that can communicate "ith the con!iguration so!t"are so you should
connect this one !irst. #t is a $%&'(( port but Mitsubishi usually sells a '(( to
(( converting cable "ith the PLC.
The t"o e)pansion boards can also be used to read the variable "ith
WebAccess* "e "ill e)plain their usage later in this document.
For FX(+ series please use the FX( driver in WebAccess. FX( and FX(C PLC
should use FX driver.
1.2 Module Settings
To con!igure the PLC you "ill have to install the ,X -eveloper so!t"are.
Version 7.0 rev 0a Advantech Corp., Ltd. page 2

The !irst step is to upload the program currently on the PLC* this "ill also
allo" you to check that the PLC is connected properly.
Choose the Comport and select 9.6Kbps speed.

#! you "ant to use an e)pansion board you have to set it up properly. The
e)pansion board . is set through the PLC settings in ,X* the e)pansion board
t"o has to be set using ladder. #n both case you need to select the settings
depending on your board /$%&'01 or $%&((2 and the %erial settings you
"ant to use.

2.1 ort
The Mitsubishi FX protocol uses a serial port. 7ven i! you use a serial port
server or a =%> to serial converter the apparent port in your computer /and
there!ore the port to select in WebAccess2 is a serial port.
2.1.1 Chec! the "ort nu#ber
#! you are using a comport emulator and you do not kno" the port number
then open the 3%tart Menu4 and right click on 3Computer4 and select

2.1.2 WebAccess Co#"ort age
?pen your WebAccess Con!iguration and select the %CA-A node you "ant to
add the device to. Then select 3Add a ne" Comport4
All the settings in this page must match the settings in all the modules
attached to the port. %o all the modules attached to the same comport must
have the same settings.

2.1.% Descri"tion
This is an optional !ield used !or user re!erence.
2.1.& 'aud (ate
For the Mitsubishi FX modules the typical baud rate is 89::.
This must match the baud rate con!igured in the module and the eventual $%&
'01 to $%&(( converter.
2.1.) Data 'its
The packets can have 6 or 0 -ata >its. The typical setting !or Mitsubishi FX is
7 bits.
2.1.7 Sto" 'its
The packets can have . or ( %top >its. The typical setting !or Mitsubishi FX is
1 Stop bit.
2.1.* arit+
The Parity can be +one* ?dd* 7ven or -isabled. The typical setting !or
Mitsubishi FX is Parity = Even.
2.1., Scan -i#e
This is the time in milliseconds to scan the -evices. This must match the
ability o! the device to respond. A typical scan rate is 1 per second.
#! the -evice cannot respond as !ast as the %CA+ Time entered* WebAccess
"ill scan at a slo"er rate.
2.1.1. -i#eout
With a . second scan rate* a typical Time Out = 200 Milliseconds.
Timeout is the time "aited be!ore re&sending a communications packet that
did not have a reply.
Timeout speci!ies ho" long the so!t"are "aits !or a response to a data
reAuest* speci!ically to "ait !or a reply !rom one packet. A recommended
value is one&!i!th the scan rate* longer i! the communication device is slo".
Combined "ith $etry count* Timeout also determines time to consider a
device or port as >A-. Timeout is the time to "ait since last communication
packet sent "ithout a reply. Time is in milliseconds. %lo" or poor Auality
communications reAuire longer timeout. The !aster the communications* the
shorter the timeout reAuired. %horter timeouts result in !aster reconnects
a!ter communication !ailures.
Version 7.0 rev 0a Advantech Corp., Ltd. page 10
WebAccess Configuration Manual Mitsubishi FX2N
2.1.11 (etr+ Count
A typical etry count = !.
+umber o! times to retry communications i! no reply is received !rom a
device. Combined "ith Timeout* also determines time to consider a device or
port as >A-.
This is the number o! times a!ter the !irst attempt has !ailed that
communication should be attempted be!ore indicating a !ailure. /#! $etry
count is * a total o! ' !ailed reAuests have occurred be!ore tags are marked
bad2. %peci!ically* this is ho" many times to send a single packet a!ter the
!ield device !ails to respond to the !irst packet. A!ter the retry count is
e)ceeded* all the tags in the packet are marked "ith asterisks and the ne)t
packet o! reAuests is sent. A reasonable value is to 1 times. A!ter this
number o! tries* the tags in this packet are marked as B!ail to respondB /i.e.
asterisks2 and are disabled. #n reality* increasing the number o! retries hides
!ailures on the part o! the !ield device to respond to a reAuest. 7ssentially*
increasing the retries gives the !ield device more chances to reply.
2.1.12 Auto (ecover -i#e
A typical Auto ecover Time = "0 Seconds.
Auto $ecover Time is the time to "ait be!ore attempting to re&establish
communications "ith a >A- device or port.
#! communications to the PLC is unusually slo" due to hard"are*
communications or net"ork issues* you might consider increasing this value.
#! communications to the PLC or $T= !ails !reAuently* you may "ant to
decrease this number in order to have WebAccess try to re&establish
communications sooner.
#! communications to the PLC* $T= or device Fails /i.e. e)ceeds Timeout2
WebAccess "ill "ait the Auto $ecover Time be!ore trying to re&establish
communications.
2.1.1$ /and Sha!e (-S
The typical setting !or Mitsubishi FX is #andS$a%ets = &o.
The $T% /$eAuest To %end2 signal is raised and lo"ered on the %erial
Communications Port i! this value set to <es. $T% is determined by settings
in the !ield device. Refer to your device interface manual to determine the
value for this field and the type of cable used.
2.1.1% /and Sha!e D-(
The typical setting !or Mitsubishi FX is #andS$a%e'tr = &o.

2.$ -ag
<ou can no" access to the memory addresses o! you PLC using 3Add tag4.
2.$.1 ara#eter
The parameter gives the type o! tag you "ant to import. Try to select a
parameter as close to the tag type as possible because it "ill !ill the other
option "ith the de!ault parameters.
#n Mitsubishi FX "e made a parameter !or each type o! data available in the
PLC.
2.$.2 Address
For Mitsubishi FX the address starts "ith the data type /X !or input* < !or
outputC2 and is !ollo"ed by the byte and bit position o! the data /X::: to
X::6 then X:.: to X:.6 and so on2 !or #D? and the position in the memory
!or memory types /type M2.
2.$.$ Scaling -+"e
#! the data sent by the module is not in a human readable unit you can use
the scaling to change the unit and display a more convenient unit in the node.
#n most cases a linear scaling type "ill be su!!icient.
