This past week I had the wonderful opportunity to get to interact with our kindergarten
students as they played on the playground. The social skills learned on the
playground provide a foundation that encourages success of children in the
classroom. As trite as it may sound, students do learn all they need to know in
kindergarten. With those foundation principles in place – sharing, giving grace, exploring the possibilities,
shouting with joy—a child can succeed in all areas of study.

Your children amaze me sometimes…add to these foundation principles the belief that God gives
value to everyone, and you have a remarkable group of kids. Are things always perfect? Of course not. But
last week I was told our kindergarten students began a song as they played on the swings, back and forth…
―Oh Boys/Girls, do you love Jesus?‖ Oh yes, we love Jesus.‖ Back and forth… Jesus called us to be as
children…we learn from them daily. Thank you for letting us be a part of your child’s life. SF

Admissions Open House November 22 : Remember that we will have open house for prospective
students (2010-2011) at all three schools this Sunday afternoon. From 2:00-4:00 p.m. parents and
children may tour the building and ask questions of teachers and administrators. Please urge your
friends to take a look at DLCS if they are looking for a school. Our present parents are our best
ambassadors.

Annual Fund: Please don’t forget to give to our present Annual Fund Drive. Debbie Lambert, Director of
DLCS Advancement, has probably contacted you. Every year DLES benefits directly from the Annual
Fund. 100% of the faculty and staff have donated to the fund this fall. We would love to have 100% of
our parents donate, whatever the amount. Thank you for your support!

Lighting of the Green: On Tuesday evening, December 1 , the entire Lipscomb family along with the
surrounding community will enjoy the fifth annual Lighting of the Green. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m.
with food for purchase in Allen Arena. The evening will be hosted by Amy Grant, with our own elementary
chorus and choruses from middle school, high school, and the university combined. The performance will
begin at 5:30 p.m. at Lipscomb University’s Allen Bell Tower. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and the entire
family for a free night of fun. It’s a great way to get in the holiday spirit!

Jump Rope for Heart: Last Friday, Nov. 13 , our second through fourth grade students culminated their
PE jump rope unit by jumping rope to benefit the American Heart Association. Through the generosity of
your families, over $12,110 were raised through this event. Thank you for helping us train our students to
give to the community.

Grandparent Day: Please mark the date for the elementary Grandparent Days to be held Tuesday and
th th
Wednesday, December 15 and 16 . The same activities will occur both days; therefore, we are
st nd th rd
suggesting that grandparents of Pre-first, 1 and 2 graders attend on the 15 and grandparents of 3
th th
and 4 graders attend on the 16 . If you have children scheduled for both of those days, you can
choose either day. There is no need for you to attend more than once since it is the same performance. If
you have a conflict on one day, you may attend the other day. We are trying to alleviate overcrowding in
the gym and the parking lots. Grandparents will be receiving an invitation from us in the next few weeks.
The event will take place at 8:10 a.m. in the elementary gymnasium. Our Pre-Kindergarten and
Kindergarten children will have a Grandparent Day in the Spring.

Parents and Friends:

th
You are invited to join us for Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Tuesday, November 24 . Your child’s
lunch time will be adjusted five or ten minutes from the regular schedule. Your child’s teacher will notify
you of that exact time prior to the date. The cost of the lunch is $6.00 for adults and $3.40 or regular
plate lunch cost for children. We hope you’ll be able to join us for turkey, dressing, green bean casserole
and all the trimmings.

If you plan to come, please fill in the form below and return it to your child’s teacher. Please attach the
total cost unless your child is using his ID card. When you arrive for lunch, there will be an envelope for
you with meal tickets enclosed in your child’s classroom. This is a big day with many extra adults eating,
so we need to get an accurate count. If you send your money with your reservation, the wait time will
significantly shorten. We hope you’ll be able to join us. SF
