Professional Growth Plan

Domains
1C: Suitability for diverse learners
I would like to better differentiate my instruction where I am challenging all students according to their performance levels. This is an area of growth for me because I have differentiated instruction to help struggling students, but have not provided enough challenging work for the higher performing students.

Action Steps
- Start creating more challenging work by seeking higher leveled versions of texts that match the curriculum (ie- using 8th grade materials for 7th grade students - Differentiate instruction with an equal focus on all learning styles

1B: Knowledge of students special needs

Throughout the year, I intend to modify/accommodate instruction accordingly for my students with special needs. This is an area of growth because, while I have modified instruction and assessments, I have to improve on accommodating students to attain their annual goals. - Use each students IEP to make a list of accommodations/modifications - Collaborate with Special Educator in identifying quarterly benchmarks and annual goals

2C: Management of instructional groups

In the beginning of the school year, I intend to start working with students to have more roles in the classroom. Whether through centers, or student lead transitions, I would like for my management to excel where students are taking part in the classroom as leaders. This is an area of growth because, while I have had improvement in classroom management throughout the year, I understand that I will have to work on creating a system with a new set of teachers in the upcoming school year. - Develop rapport with students and provide opportunities to practice leadership roles (alternating classroom job list) - Example of leadership roles: transition leaders, group leaders, and data collector - Incentive system for practicing excellent leadership qualities - Collaborate with teachers to create a management/incentive/consequence systems

2B: Student pride in work

I would like for my students to take pride in their work and explicitly illustrate this throughout the school year. Students would turn in all of their assignments and work their best to meet academic excellence. This is an area of growth because, throughout my residency, my students have struggled in turning in their assignments, and I anticipate that this may be a possibility in my new placement. - Use incentive system to celebrate academic excellence - Display excellent work in classroom

Professional Growth Plan

3D: Feedback to students
I intend to start providing daily feedback to students. This is an area of growth because, while I have written feedback on homework and tests, I seldom returned it the following day, so students were not immediately aware of their strengths and areas of growth. - Provide daily feedback to each student (verbally or through writing) - Use homework review to highlight a students work

3E: Lesson adjustment

I will focus on adjusting my lesson (if necessary) based on CFUs. While I have used CFUs in class and re-explained a concept in a different fashion, I did not consistently adjust my lesson in the moment for the small group of students who did not grasp the material. While I have created small groups based on exit slip data, I did not often adjust whole lessons if a majority of students did not grasp the material. - Record and reflect on lessons - Use formative assessments to be intentional in my CFUs - Script in specific CFUs in lesson plans

4A: Use in future teaching

This is an area of growth because I would like to develop a more detailed plan and resource list for future teaching. While I have gained an immense insight in management and instructional approaches, I would like to focus on learning as many teaching strategies for scaffolding student-centered instruction and project-based learning. - Keep up with newsletters (such as Edutopia and SmartBrief) to gain ideas - Attend professional developments and education symposiums - Collaborate with veteran teachers and exchange ideas

4C: Engagement of families in the instructional program

While I have spoken to parent on various occasions, I have not made enough positive phone calls home and rarely informed parents of weekly instructional plans. My goal for the upcoming year is to create a website where parents can access resources and weekly updates on lessons and activities. I also intend on sending home newsletters and communicating at least once a week with each parent. - Contact parents once a week - Create a website posted with weekly objectives, homework, and activities or send home weekly newsletters with weekly objectives, homework, and activities
