Was a major war between the united states (union) and eleven
southern states.

12 April 1862
Fighting commenced when Confederate forces attacked a United
states ( Federal) military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina
the first state to secede. South Carolina claimed the Sumter was
legally within its (territorial) water.
During the first year of Civil War , the Union assumed control of the border
state and establish a naval blockade as a both side raised large enemies.
In 1862
Major bloody battles such as Shiloh were fought causing massive
casualties unprecedented in u.s military history.

In September 1962
Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation made the freeing of salves in the
South a war goal despite opposition from Nothern Copperheads who
tolerated secession and slavery.
Europe immigration joined the Union Army in a large numbers around
23.4% all of Union soldiers were German Americas an. bout 21600

In the East, Confederate General Robert E.Lee assumed commad of
the army of Northern Virginia and experience a series of victories
against the army of the Polomac.

On April 12,1861, the war began when Gen. P.G.T.Beauregard opened fire
on Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor forcing its surrender

Following the defeat at bull run, Gen George McClellan was given command of
the new Union Army of the Potomac and shifted the army south to attack
Richmond via the Peninsula in early 1862. he shifted the army south to attack

In summer 1863, Union troops under Gen. William Rosecrans
advanced into Georgia and were defected at Chickamauga.

In March 1864, Grant was given command of all Union and came east
to deal with Lee. Grants campaign began in May, with the armies
clashing at the wilderness.
Aftermath & casualties
On April 14, five days after Lees surrender, President Lincoln was
assassinated while attending a play at Fords Theater in
Washington

During the war, union forces suffered approximately
360000 killed (140000 in battle)and 28200 wounded.
Confederates armies lost approximately 258000 killed
(94000 in battle) and an unknown number of wounded.
The total killed in war exceeds the total deaths from all
other US wars combined.


Conclusion
# After disbanding his unit, John Mosby become a Republican. It
angered many in the south because of his decision because of his
action, he received death threats and had his boyhood home burned
down. To protect him from these danger, Grand appointed him as US
Consul to Hong Kong in 1878. In 1885, Mosby come back to US and
work as lawyer in California for the Southern Pacific Railroad before
moving through a variety of governmental post. Last serving as
Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice(1904-1910).
Mosby died in Washington DC on May 30, 1916 and was buried at
Warrenton Cemetery in Virginia
