Quality of Experience
Average cities will require more than 400 small cells each by 2019, driven by three
scenarios. Constrained deployment is limited by barriers of sites and backhaul, and its
only used to resolve critical issues in most congested macrocells. Capacity-only
deployment uses small cells to ease the congestion of the busiest macrocells. And, wide
QoE deployment enhances the QoE for most macrocells. - Bernard Prki -Product

PON (Passive Optical Network)
PON networks are in locations where Small Cell deployments are needed

Centralized
Suited for concentrated urban areas
Used in cities, neighborhoods where central access to
distribution point desirable
Distributed
Suitable for widely dispersed subscribers
Typically used for rural deployments

GPON, EPON, 10G-PON, xPON
