1 Downloader Instructions
Follow the instructions carefully until you become more familiar with downloading programs to your
mini2440 and pay special attention to the items highlighted in red.
First ensure that your mini2440 is powered off and is not placed on any conductive surface.
Before starting to download files or images to your mini2440 you will need to have a serial & a USB
cable connected between your ! and the mini2440.
"f you have not yet installed the USB drivers re#uired for the mini2440 then you will need to install
these first on your ! before you will be able to download any files to the mini2440$ you find the
driver in the download section.
!onnect the serial cable between your mini2440 serial port and the serial port of your !. %he
re#uired serial port connection settings on your ! are&
Bits per second ' (()200

Stop bits ' (

!onnect a USB cable between your ! and the mini2440.
%o download images to the mini2440 first set your mini2440 to ,-. by moving the slide switch to
the ,-. position. %he mini2440 ,-. flash is used by the bootloader program and contains a
program inside the ,-. memory that interfaces with your ! via the serial and USB ports. /hen
the slide switch is set to the ,-. position the mini2440 will run the bootloader program contained
in the ,-. flash boot area$ when the board is powered up or the reset button is pressed.
1.1 Using DNW (dnw.exe)
.un the program called 0dnw.e1e2 34ou can find it on the download section of the Friendly5.6
homepage.7 on your !$ the screen will show&
!lic8 on the 0!onfiguration2 tab and select 0-ptions2$ set the baud rate to (()200 and select the
com port number you are using for the download$ ie. if your serial cable is plugged into the !-6 (
port on your ! then select !-6 (.
"n the instructions below we will refer to all serial connections as 2!-6 (2. Set the USB ort
download address to 0190000000. 4our ! screen will now be as below&
%hen clic8 0-:2.
!lic8 the 0Serial ort2 tab on the top left and select 0!onnect2$ the screen will now show that *,/
is connected to your serial port with ;!-6($(()200bps< by displaying this information in the top
titlebar. "f you do not have this message you will need to rechec8 your serial settings and=or serial
cable connections.$"f your USB connection is correct you will also have the message ;USB&1<
displayed$ if not you will need to chec8 the USB is properly configured.
4ou are now ready to begin the downloading procedure.
ower up the mini2440 ensure the power >?* is lit$ because we are using the ,-. flash
bootloader your mini2440 >!* will not display any information. @owever your ! will now be
displaying the following message&
%he bootloader program in your mini2440 is now communicating with your ! via the serial
connection. "f you do not see the above screen then there is a problem with the serial connection.
4ou can instruct the bootloader program with commands inside the mini2440 via the ! 8eyboard
and see the results on the screen of the !. 6a1imise the *,/ screen so that you can see all the
bootloader command options available.
ress the 012 8ey and then return=enter on the !$ the screen will show&
/hat you have done is tell the mini2440 to partition the ,5,* flash memory.
ress the 0v2 8ey and then return on the !$ the screen will display 0USB host is connected.
Waiting a download.2 %he mini2440 is now ready to receive a file via the USB. !lic8 the USB ort
from the menu in the top of the window and select the %ransmit=.estore option. %he screen will
now as8 you to select a file to transmit$ Select the 0superviviAmini24402 file 3if the file is not
displayed ensure that you have the 0all files B.B2 option selected7. %hen clic8 -?,.
%he file will be sent to the mini2440$ what you have done is load the mini2440 ,5,* boot with the
supervivi file loader program. %he ! screen will revert bac8 to the main boot page.
4ou now need to install the >inu1 8ernel$ press the 082 8ey and then return on the !$ the screen
will display 0USB host is connected. /aiting a download2. !lic8 the USB ort from the menu a and
select the %ransmit=.estore option. %he screen will now as8 you to select a file to transmit$ Select
the 0C"mageAa9)2 if you have a 9.)2 >!*$ or 0C"mageAaD02 if you have a D2 >!* or
0C"mageA(0241DE+2 if you are using the FG5 adapter. ?ach >inu1 8ernel is different depending
upon which >!* you are using. %hen clic8 -?,.
%he file will now be downloaded via the USB to the mini2440$ after it has been downloaded and
configured the ! screen will revert bac8 to the bootloader menu.
4ou now need to install yaffs$ press the 0y2 8ey and then return on the !$ the screen will display
0USB host is connected. Waiting a download2. !lic8 the USB ort from the menu and select the
%ransmit=.estore option. %he screen will now as8 you to select a file to transmit. !hoose the
0rootA#topia.img2 file. %hen clic8 -?,.
%he file will now be downloaded into your mini2440$ it will ta8e some time so Hust wait until it is
completed and the ! screen reverts bac8 to the bootloader screen.
,ow to boot the >inu1 system$ first power off the mini2440. %hen move the flash select slide switch
to ,5,* Boot. ower up the mini2440 and >inu1 will boot up$ if you leave the cables to the !
attached you will see the >",UI debug messages while the >inu1 system on the mini2440 is
booting.
