Perennity Dicom workflow

The Perennity Dicom solution consists of the following components: A CD/DVD autoloader, such as Rimage or Epson PP-100, composed of a robot, one or more CD/DVD recorders and a printer to label the discs. The Perennity Dicom Server, also running as a Windows service, acts as a real Dicom server. It listens to Dicom clients, such as modalities and PACS applications, to collect and store Dicom images that must be recorded on CD/DVD. It also extracts the metadata (patient name, study ID, ) from the Dicom images and generates JPEG thumbnails to preview the images.

The Perennity Dicom Server also acts as Dicom SCP server. As result, it is possible to Query and Retrieve images from Perennity from any Dicom SCU client (e.g. Dicom Workstation). The Perennity Dicom Burner is the main user interface for querying and selecting the series/studies of Dicom images to be recorded to CD/DVD (attended mode). The Dicom Burner can be used in Unattended mode meaning that Dicom images are automatically submitted for recording once series or studies are completed. Last but not least, it is possible to query and retrieve images stored in the Perennity or from any third party Dicom server (e.g. a PACS). The Perennity Autoloader, running as a Windows service, that interfaces the CD/DVD autoloader. The database - MySQL or MS SQL Server - that will keep track of all operations. It will also store all metadata (patient name, study ID, ) extracted from the Dicom images.

Create input/output folders Perennity will need two different folders: The first one is used by the Perennity Dicom Server to store all the Dicom images it has received. Depending on how long you want to keep these images (e.g. for archiving purpose), you may require a large storage capacity definitely if you configure the Dicom Server to keep the images for ever. Keep the path to this folder as short as possible (e.g. C:\Dicom\Received Images) as we will use the Study UID, Series UID and Image UID as folder and file names. These UID are always very long. The second is for the Perennity Dicom Burner. It is a temporary folder where Dicom images to be output to CD/DVD will be copied. Once the disc has been recorded, the images will automatically be deleted (e.g. C:\Dicom\To Burn). Install Perennity Dicom Before installing Perennity Dicom, make sure that the Rimage CD/DVD autoloader is fully functional. It is recommended to install Perennity Dicom on the same computer running the Rimage software suite. This will avoid useless network traffic. If you own a Rimage 360i or a 2000i, make sure to have a complete networkable Rimage OfficeNet software suite. The Rimage CD/DVD autoloader is up and running. The three Perennity Dicom components (Dicom Burner, Dicom Server and Dicom Autoloader) are contained in one installation package named PerennityDicom_vxxx_byyy.exe. xxx represents the version of Perennity Dicom while yyy is the number of the build. Simply run this executable to start its installation. Select the Complete setup then click on Next. Keep the default location (c:\Program Files\Perennity\Perennity Dicom). Click on Next until all components are installed. Configuring the Perennity Dicom Server Launch the Perennity Dicom Server using the icon located on your desktop or in the Start menu. The first time, you will be asked to enter the parameters. If you have installed MySQL in an other subfolder than the default one (C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1), you will be prompted to select the path where it has been installed. Be sure to select the right folder. Anyway, it must end with ..\MySQL Server 5.1\.
