In this visit, we have met some of the local organizations working in
Hiiran region. One of them is the youth organization that covers like 4
parts or sectors of Hiiran. There is a women organization that we met,
there is the centre for research and dialogue and all those are
organizations that are ready to take over and start implementing projects
for their regions.

Today we have attended a meeting about gender issues while
representing Hiiraan Youth Organisation. It is the first such meeting we
have participated in regarding gender issues. Both men and women spoke
about gender balance and equal jobs opportunities, which we welcome.

STORY

The AMISOM Protection; Human Rights and Gender Unit has held discussions
with members of the civil society in BeletWeyne, Hiiran region, with a view of
gaining better understanding the pertinent issues affecting women, girls and
men in the area.
The meeting was attended by members of the Hiiraan Youth Organization,
women organizations, and representatives of the Centre for Research and
Dialogue, officials from the Federal Government, Hiiran administration officials.
The meeting discussed gender issues prevalent in the region, the challenges
faced by the different agencies and organizations in addressing them and how
these can be tackled with support from AMISOM.
Speaking after the meeting, Rasha Alamin, AMISOM Protection; Human Rights
and Gender officer said the discussions had been very production and will
provide a basis for future interventions.
In this visit, we have met some of the local organizations working in Hiiran

AMISOM Gender unit to initiate interactions with them.

The AMISOM Gender will also hold similar meetings in Baidoa and Kismayo to
gather needs and finalize a mapping of organized structures working in the
gender field.
