DISCUSSION or ELABORATION

Field work no. 7 is about profile leveling. Profile leveling is the process of
determining the elevations of a series of points at measured intervals along a line
such as the centerline of a proposed ditch or the road or the centerline of a
natural feature such as a stream bed.
For this field work, we went to Apo Street, Quezon city to perform the field
work. The road on Apo Street contains different elevations that is why this is a
perfect place to conduct the 7
th
field work. To start the field work, our professor
have provided us a 730-meter-road to be surveyed. We were tasked to get the
different elevation of that 730-meter-road. The first thing we did is we placed the
precise level on a suitable location where we can still see the benchmark. Then
we used the precise level to obtain the Back sight and Elevation of the Benchmark
1 to get its elevation. After doing so, the rodman transferred to station 0+000 to
get its intermediate foresight (IFS), IFS is need to get the elevation of each
stations. Same procedure until the end. But at an instant that we cannot see or
read whats on the leveling rod, we performed turning points. For this 730-meter-
road, we have performed 5 turning points. When we finished gathering the data
needed for this field work, we computed the data to get the elevation of each
stations. For this field work, here are the formulas we used:
Benchmark HI = Elev. of the point + BS
Elev. of each stations = HI IFS
stations
Elev. of TP = HI IFS
TP
HI
TP
= Elev. of the point + BS
OBSERVATION, REMARKS, and CONCLUSION
It is important for us future Civil Engineers to learn how to do profile
leveling. This is an important skill that a civil engineer must poses for it will be
needed for road constructions, elevations, and many more.
For this fieldwork, I observed that the location is very suitable but too far
from school. The street has many uphill and downhill that is why it is suitable.
There are some minor problems that were encountered, like the passing of cars,
the intersections and the strong winds which affect the level rod and caused it to
move. But even though, we were able to finish the 730-meter-fieldwork and learn
how to profile level.
Every objective from this fieldwork were achieved. We were able to
develop our skills in getting the elevation of ground points, acquire the knowledge
of plotting the profile and master the use of the precise level. Since this is the 7
th

fieldwork, we are always confident with working with each other. Therefore, we
were able to learn and develop our skills in getting elevations and using the
precise level.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
For this fieldwork, I would like to thank God for guiding us, helping us,
giving as a good weather, and letting us finish the fieldwork without any of us
getting hurt. Next, I would like to thank sir Bong for always going with us on the
fieldwork, answering our questions, and helping us when we are confuse on what
to do. Next, is to my group mates for having a great teamwork and not
complaining on what theyre doing. Especially to Miranda, Salenga and Chenilla,
for understanding me and Tibon, because we have a next subject after surveying.
The 3 of them were always left to finish the fieldwork, but doesnt complain,
thank you. Last is to my parents for always supporting me and helping on
everything. Thank you very much!
