Bruce Rauner has said he looks to Indiana Gov. Mitch
Daniels as a mentor on how things should be done in Illinois:
Mitch Daniels is my role model.
Bruce Rauner, Crains Chicago Business, March 31, 2014
Here are a few facts about Indiana under Mitch Daniels rule:
4On his frst day in ofce, Daniels repealed collective bargaining rights for
Indiana state workers.
4Despite assurances to unions that he opposed union-busting right-to-work
laws, he signed the anti-union bill just hours after it passed.
4He approved a bill that limited contracts between school districts and
employees to include only wages and benefts, nothing regarding
working conditions.
4Daniels pushed a low-wage economy that saw total employment drop along
with per capita income.
4He cut corporate taxes by 25 percent, but didnt lower personal income taxes.
4Daniels privatized numerous state services, including handing over many
corrections department services to a company that had provided generous
campaign donations.
Rauner is also a big fan of Wisconsin Gov. Scott
Walker, telling the National Review that Walker
is his role model:
I have studied with many of the great
governors in America. Scott Walker
has done some good things.
Rauner said at the IEA RA in April 2014
Some of the good things Walker has done:
4Stripped state employees of collective bargaining
rights.
4Replaced contracts with policy guidelines that allow
school administrators to arbitrarily decide issues such
as the minimum length of a female employees skirt,
and whether employees can be dismissed for getting
a speeding ticket.
4Slashed education employees salaries, through various
changes in law, by as much as $5,000 a year.
4Slashed $1.6 billion from public education and gave
millions to failing charter schools and to expand
voucher programs.
4Made huge cuts to health care.
