A number of players are on practice squads, including Jeremiah George, who is the latest Cyclone
to be drafted, getting selected in the fth round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets. George led
the Big 12 and ranked fourth nationally in tackles in 2013 at 11.1.
ISU has had an NFL draftee in each of the last three seasons.
Iowa State Football Bowl Berths: 1971, 1972, 1977, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012
REMEMBERING CURTIS BRAY
Curtis Bray, who was on head coach Paul Rhoads Iowa State staff the last ve seasons, passed away
suddenly from a pulmonary embolism in January at the age of 43.
Bray was ISUs defensive end coach from 2009-13, tutoring multiple defensive ends to All-Big 12
recognition.
Iowa State will honor Brays legacy by adorning a patch on their helmets of his initials CB throughout
the entire season.
ISU DE Cory Morrissey, who earned All-Big 12 honors in 2013 under Brays leadership, changed his
uniform number to 58 in honor of Bray, who wore the same number in his outstanding career at
Pittsburgh.
DRAKE FERCH AND BEN BOESEN AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS
Coach Rhoads placed senior Drake Ferch (N/LB) and junior Ben Boesen (TE) on scholarship at the
end of fall camp.
Both players came to ISU as recruited walk-ons and have worked their way up into the two-deep.
Rhoads has placed 18 former walk-ons on scholarship in his tenure.
QUICK FACTS
Only three true freshmen (Nigel Tribune- 2013, Allen Lazard-2014, Colin Downing-2014) have played
for the Cyclones in the last three seasons.
Tribune registered seven starts as a true freshman in 2013, the most by any defensive back in the
Big 12.
From 2010-14, ISU ranks in the top-ve nationally in upset wins with 11.
ISU is 4-for-4 in the red zone this season, recording TDs all four times when getting inside the
opponents 20-yard line.
ISU has scored all of its 42 points on the season in the rst half, including 28 points in the 2nd
quarter.
ISU is averaging 190 yards of total offense in the rst half.
ISU has committed only three turnovers on the year, but has yet to force a turnover in its rst two
games. The Cyclones have forced 20+ turnovers in the rst ve seasons of the Coach Rhoads era.
DAUNTING SCHEDULE
Phil Steele ranks ISUs 2014 schedule as the seventh-toughest in the nation. That follows pre-season
schedule ranks of sixth (2013), third (2012), sixth (2011) and rst (2010) for the Cyclones.
Iowa State will yet again play one of the nations toughest schedules.
The combined 2013 record of Iowa States 2014 opponents is 96-57. Only three teams (Kansas, West
Virginia, TCU) posted records below .500 in 2013.
Iowa States rst eight opponents (North Dakota State, 14-0; Kansas State, 8-5; Iowa, 8-5; Toledo,
7-5; Baylor, 11-2; Oklahoma State, 10-3; Texas, 8-5; Oklahoma, 11-2) were a combined 77-27 in 2013.
