I-Café Pilipinas Goes All Out for 2010
I-Café Pilipinas is a national network of
internet café owners, operators and associa-
tions in the Philippines. It strives to become
their voice on a national level to represent their
interest on issues pertaining to efficient opera-
tion of their business. It hopes to represent the ideals, aspira-
tions and dreams of each internet café owner, operator and
association as they take to the task in contributing to the de-
velopment of their communities by providing affordable inter-
net access and superior service.
Introduced in 2009 during the successful First Internet Café
National Summit at the CICT last November, I-Café Pilipinas
goes all out in 2010 as it rolls out its various initiatives that
aims for the development of the internet café industry in the
Philippines. It would be conducting regional summits, and
internet café entrepreneurship courses all over the country in
order to impart knowledge to the internet café operators in the
successful operations of their business. Likewise it would be
conducting training seminars on the Digital Batang Pinoy
program that aims to develop awareness on the part of the
internet café operators on the importance of protecting the
children from threats in the use of the internet in their daily
activities.

Summit (2nd MICAS) to be held on
February 18 and 19, 2010 at The
Event Centre, SM City-Davao in
Davao City. The software company
will expound on the Microsoft I-Café Program which it
recently launched to provide one-time, all-time low on license
costs of Windows operating system and Office productivity
suite. The initiative is aimed at giving the i-café owners the
opportunity to legalize their unlicensed software as well as get
long-term programs and partner support from the largest soft-
ware development company in the world. The program offers
secure and dependable computing in licensing packages that
are relevant and affordable for Internet café owners who are
looking to serve their customers better.

sion on Information and Communication Technology will deliver the keynote address during the Sec-
ond Mindanao Internet Café Associations Summit on February 18 and 19, 2010 at the SM City Davao
Ecoland, Davao City.
The Second MICAS is a joint project of the Internet Café Association of Davao and I-Café
Pilipinas that hopes to bring together the officers of the different internet Café associations and opera-
tors of Internet Cafes in the Mindanao into a forum in which vital issues affecting their operations
would be discussed with the hope of creating a master plan that could lead to the
total development of the internet café industry in the region. Much like the First
MICAS that was held in 2007, the Internet Café Association of Davao headed by its
president Mr. Adolfo Solanor will take the lead in organizing next year’s gathering.
“It is an honor and a privilege for I-Café Pilipinas to
be part of the team led by ICAD that would organize the 2010
MICAS in Davao City in February” stressed by Mr. Ed Zafra,
Chair of I-Café Pilipinas the national advocacy organization mainly composed of the
internet café associations and operators in the Philippines. “We truly believe that the
2010 MICAS will serve as a vehicle in the further development of the internet cafes
as a leader in community ICT access for peace and development in Mindanao”
added by Mr. Zafra.
The Second MICAS is made possible by the support of the following event partners Intel
Technology Philippines and Microsoft Philippines, and ICT Davao as its Gold Event Partners. Silver

Intel Technology Philippines Top Man to Grace Second MICAS
Noting the important role of the internet cafe industry in the Philippines in pro-
viding affordable internet access to the community, Intel Technology Philippines
country manager, Mr Ricky Banaag, will be addressing the participants of the Sec-
ond Mindanao Internet Cafe Associations Summit on February 18, 2010 at the SM
City Davao Ecoland, Davao City. He would be discussing with the participants the
various initiatives of Intel in promoting the development of the industry in the
various parts of the country.
Part of the program is the Intel Net Center that aims in providing af-
fordable Intel computer packages and marketing support to the internet cafe op-
erators. “What we are offering is actually a complete intenet cafe package” says
Mr. Joscel Pendejito, Intel's Channel Account Manager. Not only the computers
but also a lot of freebies like providing posters, signages, routers, setting up the
cafe and most of all training on how to operate their internet cafes properly. An-
other program that is going to be rolled out in the next few months is the Commu-
nity Entrepreneurship Training for Internet Cafe Operations in order to provide the necessary informa-
tion to those who would like to set up their own internet cafe business.

I-Cafe Pilipinas will launch its national initiative “Ang Batang

Davao, Ecoland, Davao City. Ang Digital Batang Pinoy is an initiative of the I
-Café Pilipinas, a national advocacy organization that is mainly composed of
the different internet café owners and operators in the Philippines. The internet
café owners and operators being in the forefront in the changes that is taking
place in the ICT industry by offering affordable internet connections to the community takes into task of
educating the community on the responsible use of digital technology.
Its primary aim is to develop on the part of the internet cafe operators the awareness of the
need of protecting the children from threats derived from their daily use of the internet in their day to
day activities. It also hopes to develop materials and presentations in the vernacular that could be incor-
porated as part of the regular curriculum in the elementary and secondary level.
