PREFACE
 
This bulletin has been compiled from the notifications issued from time totime, by the Local Government, Elections, & Rural Development Department,Government of NWFP. On the basis of this data, an attempt has been made to present the distribution of Union Councils in each district and tehsil. According tothe instructions issued by the Election Authority, the delimitation of UnionCouncils has been made on the basis of Patwar Circles in t he rural areas, andPopulation Census Circles in the urban areas. Generally speaking, populationranging from 11,000 to 26,000 has been grouped in each Union Council.Population of each Union Council, based on 1998 Census, has been given. The listof Union Councils covers the rural and urban areas, of entire NWFP, but does notcover cantonments. It should also be noted that local bodies election in the years2000 and 2001, were held on the basis of the new delimitation.Summary data regarding the number of Union Councils in each district,along with total population, has been given. The location of provincial districts has been shown in the accompanying map.We wish to thank Mr. Habib Ullah Khan, Deputy Census Commissioner, NWFP, for his help and assistance.
