ELT METHODOLOGY (I) – 202

WEEK 4 – MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL…

While we are learning about observation and evaluation, we learn how our
behaviour on the stage is, what mistakes we do and how well we are. In
fact, they seem simple but not easy. How is my pronunciation? Do I use
my teaching place? How is the closeness between me and ss? How do I
approach them? How is my behaviour? To take a response for these
questions, being observed and observation sb else is a good opportunity to
get feedback about my teaching in the class and to have new ideas about
how I teach better.

*** We should take into consideration what we see while observing. On the
other hand, the important point is to balance between rights and wrongs
while evaluating. ***

Also the activity with role cards was beneficial for us to look from the eyes
of an observer and an evaluator. Thanks to this act, I learn how good I
evaluate and what aspects I take care more.

We also discussed about sth we need to do if we want ss to keep silence


and to motivate on the class. And teacher should make ss stay in class
and keep in the class of English,

In the classroom, for instance,

Speaking English as a teacher and encouraging the ss speak English


is important.
Till we really need to speak L₁, we shouldn’t use it.
And we shouldn’t let ss know we use L₁ whenever they need.
Moreover, to be effective on them, we should use our body language
and contact with eyes.
And classroom language is more important than the others.
