Biking New Hampshire
By Gene Harding

In my years as a member of the AMC, I have had the pleasure of going on some
wonderful bike rides with people from AMC in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode
Island, New York and New Hampshire. I list New Hampshire last because that
was a really nice bike ride out west of Keene, NH that took our group through six
beautiful covered bridges and some lovely country side. (It was sponsored by
the Worcester MA Chapter.)
To identify myself, I live in southeastern NH, about 12 miles from the coast. I

Glacier Travel Workshops April 10 and 17-18

The Mountaineering Committee will be offering two Glacier Travel workshops
in April for aspiring mountaineers who wish to hone their skills and learn new
techniques for safe and efficient travel on steep snow and glacial terrain.
The first workshop, on Sat., April 10, is Introduction to Glacier Travel. This one-
day workshop will familiarize participants with the glaciated mountaineering
environment, and will teach fundamentals of safe roped team travel, self and
team arrest, ascending and descending steep slopes, and more.
The second workshop, on April 17-18, is Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue.
This weekend workshop is tailored to participants planning to climb glaciated
peaks as team members. The two-day workshop builds on the fundamentals of
the Introduction course or previous field experience. You will learn and refine the
skills for self arrest, tying knots commonly used for roped team travel, building
snow anchors and the construction of hauling systems for crevasse rescue. For
more information on either workshop, contact Jim Kent (603-679-2235, Tues. &
