Group 2 Questionnaire – Summary of responses

1. What is the films title?

This question was answered well with everyone understanding that the films
name was ‘Blackout’

2. What genre do you think the film is?

Most people seemed to gather that this was an action thriller film however
some did think it was a horror film. These seemed to be the people further out
of our target audience.

3. What type of cinema would you expect this to be shown at? (multiplex or
independent)

This was another question that was always answered as Multiplex which is
exactly what we had hoped for

4. Who do you think this film is targeted at?

The vast majority of people answered 15-30 year old males. Our initial target
audience was expected to be slightly older than this but due to our sequence
using younger actors it probably made it seem more appropriate for slightly
younger ages.

5. Can you identify the roles of the two characters?

Everyone understood that there was a villain character and there was the
victim.

6. What happens in the sequence?

As hoped for this question was again answered successfully with everyone
understanding that the victim was being chased by the villain into his own
house.

7. What themes do you think this film contains?

The three most common themes that were stated were action, violence and
crime. Crime was an unexpected theme as we didn’t intend for this to be one
of the biggest themes in the film.

8. Do you think this works as an opening sequence?

This question was always answered as yes with a couple of people commenting
that possibly it should be slightly shorter

9. What do you think works well?

This answer was very varied. The majority of people commented on the use of
music and the suspense that was built up throughout the film. There were also
a lot of comments praising the fight scene, the final shot, the fast paced editing
and the way in which the sequence flowed. These are exactly the responses we
were hoping for so we were very pleased.

10. What do you think could be improved?

This was answered completely differently with no two people saying the same
thing. Some things pointed out were that the sequence should have been
filmed at night; however we specifically couldn’t do this due to lighting issues.
Hugh’s costume was pointed out as being slightly unconvincing which again
was an error that we were aware of. The last comment which was valid was
that the victim should have looked more tired towards the end of the
sequence.

11. Would you want to watch the rest of the film?

About 95% of people answered yes.

12. Did you notice any errors in continuity of the sequence?

Most people didn’t notice any but a few people pointed out that in some shots
there is condensation from the victim’s breath on the window and then in the
next shot there is none.

13. How would you rate this film out of 10?

Using all 20 feedback forms our average score out of 10 was 8.75
