• Research started by Nokia in 2001.
• To address the various scenarios that
contemporary wireless technologies did
not address .
• A new technology adopted from Bluetooth.
• Main Goals:Low power usage ,Less price
• Released in Oct 2006
• Agreement between Bluetooth SIG.(ULP)
Use in Embedded Systems
• Features :Lower power consumption,Small Size
• Two type of implementation.
• Stand Alone,Dual Mode
• Small devices like watches and sports sensors
will be based on a stand-alone implementation .
• Bluetooth enabled devices (such as mobile
phones and PCs) will benefit from a dual-mode
implementation that will extend Bluetooth
connectivity to a new range of smaller devices

What is Wibree?
• Wibree is a digital radio technology
(intended to become an open standard of
wireless communications) designed for
ultra low power consumption (button cell
batteries) within a short range (10 meters /
30 ft) based around low-cost transceiver
microchips in each device.
How it works?
• The details are still confidential!!!
• It operates in 2.4 GHz ISM band with physical
layer bit rate of 1 Mbit/s.
• It will share radio and reciever of bluetooth chips
• Dual mode chips.
• Low power drain.
• Not design to replace bluetooth.
