From as early as 1921, climbers had tried to reach Everest’s summit. By the time Edmund Hillary
and Tenzing Norgay completed their successful expedition in 1953, at least 13 people had lost
their lives attempting the climb.
Apa Sherpa has climbed Everest 12 times, which is the most ascents done by any one person.
