1. Download this page. Do not allow the students to see it - even after they have completed the test.
Download the student answer sheet that follows and give one to each student.
2. Instruct the students to relax, not to worry about their results and to simply do the best they can.
3. Say each word being tested once, put it into a sentence, say the word again.
EXAMPLE: “up ----- The man looked up into the sky. ----- up.”
4. The student writes the word on the answer sheet marked “ELECT GRADED SPELLING TEST-
Answer Sheet”. If they can’t write a word they are to put a dash.
5. Give no further assistance to the student. Do not repeat the word even if asked.
7. A student may stop writing words when he/she believes that they have attempted 10 words in a
row that are too difficult for them.
8. Carefully mark the words and record the number correct. Use the Conversion Table that follows to
find a realistic approximation as to their Spelling Age and its Equivalent Grade Level.
