A free public workshop will be hosted by Shuswap Nation Tribal Council and
TRU. It has been one year since the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to
Action. One challenge for all Canadians has been to see themselves within this work
and to discover how they can affect change. All community members including
teenagers, parents, community members and leaders are invited to this free public
workshop to learn about concrete, practical, manageable and personal things they
can do to respond to the TRC.
Dr. Rebecca Johnson, professor at the University of Victorias Faculty of Law and
Academic Director of the Indigenous Law Research Unit will be facilitating a one day
workshop at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) on August 10. The workshop is
about sharing knowledge in a way that resonates with people so that they feel informed and able to take their own action towards reconciliation.
It will take place August 10, 9am-4pm at the Irving K. Barber Centre, House of
Learning Building, TRU, Kamloops BC. Registration required, please email:

I Win! A cop pulled me over and saids, "Papers." I turned to him and said, "Scissors. I win!"
and then drove away.
Picking Up Clothes Weary of constantly picking clothes up from the floor of her son's room, a
mother finally laid down the law. Each item of clothing she had to pick up would cost her
son 25 cents. By the end of the week, he owed her $1.50. She received the money promptly,
along with a 50-cent tip and a note that read: "Thanks, Mom. Keep up the good work!"
Who's the Boss A guy is doing some handyman work at a house. Across the room is a large
gray parrot on a perch. The family dog comes into the room and jumps up on the couch.
The parrot says, Get off the couch! and the dog jumps down immediately. A small child
comes into the room with toys and the parrot says, Go to your room! and the child picks
up his toys leaves without hesitation. The guy turns to the parrot and says, Ive never seen
anything like that before." The parrot looks at the guy and says, Get back to work!
