Stars for local stars

Millie McClatchy met Joe Lonsdale in

arizona thirteen years ago and has been
driving from Moab, Utah ever since then
to spend her summers enjoying the
Country Music that Merritt has to offer.
She is impressed with the Walk of
Stars, a great way to promote Merritt as
the Country Music Capital of Canada
and moreover a great opportunity to pay
tribute to our local talent. Millie had the
opportunity to see Joe put his hand print
in a Star at the Grand Pub in 2005.
this year, Millie realized that Joes star
was not finished, and that Gary Cooper
does not yet have a star, also that this project
seems to have come to a standstill. Millie
has graciously opted to sponsor these two
local artists, by getting a star made for Gary
and having both stars bronzed and set in
granite, like the existing stars on the streets.
Joe and Gary have been playing music
and singing since they were children.
Gary was inducted into the BC Country
Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and the
plaque on the wall in the adelphi attests
to his accomplishments over the years. Joe
has travelled to Europe and the Caribbean
with his music. One of Joes songs, Face Behind The Bottles, from his first album, made
it to Billboard as well as being featured in
a tV show, Northern Exposure.
Joe was the house band at the adelphi for years and now Gary Cooper
Country Opry plays there every weekend. Jai Ollek is a staunch supporter of
country music and local artists. He will
be placing the two stars on his building.

1 ripe plum, pitted, half diced & half sliced

5 large basil leaves
2 oz. gin
1 oz. simple syrup
Seltzer, to top drink
Lime wedge, for garnish
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the diced
plum & basil leaves. Fill the shaker with ice;
add the gin & simple syrup. Place on the
shaker lid & shake for 1 min. Pour into a
glass filled the sliced plum. Fill glass to the
top with seltzer & garnish with lime wedge.
