ay Tree Publishing combines the efforts of the husband and
wife publishing team, David and Mary Lee Cole. We began
working in publishing in the 1970s, Mary Lee as an editor and
David as production manager in a small Northern California start-up.
In the years since, Mary Lee has combined a career in educational
program development, teaching, and coaching writers (she has a Ph.D.
in education). David has divided his time between publishing, writ-
ing, and marketing, cultivating experience in every aspect of the
book publishing business. We are authors as well as publishers, so
we understand the concerns and expectations that writers bring to
the publishing experience. Above all, we have a passion for books,
language, the written word, and the process of communication that
bridges author and reader.
To meet the challenges of 21st century publishing, we offer a full
line of publishing services, including co-publishing, writer coaching,
e-books, and online access. We look forward to discussing these
options with you.

Invisible Energy
Strategies to Rescue the Economy
and Save the Planet
David B. Goldstein
Foreword by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Upending most conventional ideas about
energy use and the economy, Invisible
Energy shows how expanded efforts toward
efficiency—supported by new technolo-
gies and governmental regulations—can
drastically reduce greenhouse emissions.
Arguing that the economy has been hob-
bled for last 35 years by negative climate
and energy policies, this book shows how
improved efficiencies will promote greater
economic growth, not less, providing sig-
nificant economic benefits both to con-
sumers and a wide range of businesses.

About the Author

David B. Goldstein, Ph.D. is Energy Program Co-Director for the Natural
Resources Defense Council and a MacArthur (“genius award”) Fellow.

Cults,Terror, and
Mind Control
Raphael Aron
Though differing in appearance and pur-
pose, cults and terrorist organizations nev-
ertheless share many of the same essential
dynamics. Both exploit the basic human
need to belong; both feed on feelings of
alienation and marginalization so common
in the world today. In addition, both use
similar mind control techniques to control
members and maintain adherence.
With examples from numerous groups
and first-hand accounts of individuals
who survived their involvement, this
book explains:
• the nature and history of cults and
terrorist groups
• how cults and terrorist groups share the same psychological dynamics
• who is vulnerable
• what is mind control
• the attraction of these groups and difficulty in leaving

Saving Energy, Growing Jobs
How Environmental Protection Promotes Economic
Growth, Profitability, Innovation, and Competition

David B. Goldstein
Foreword by Senator Olympia J. Snowe

Saving Energy, Growing Jobs shows that well-con-

ceived environmental regulations create more
jobs, lead to more efficient designs, and provide
less expensive products. It offers a new paradigm
for the economy and the environment in which
the nation (and the world) can preserve its re-
sources and promote prosperity at the same time.
This ground-breaking book:
•Profiles the unexpected success of early energy
regulations
•Shows how markets work and how they fail
•Exposes both the myths of environmentalists
and anti-environmentalists
•Provides a model for well-designed environmental policies
•Offers guidelines for transforming the current political debate
Proposing that environmental protection can drive innovation, Goldstein outlines
incentives and regulations that can speed the process.

David B. Goldstein, Ph.D., is Energy Program Director for the Natural Resources
Defense Council and a MacArthur (“genius award”) Fellow.

Psychiatrist on the Road
Encounters in Healing and Healthcare
Lawrence H. Climo, M.D.
When he was laid off at age 65 by the men-
tal health clinic where he served as a senior
clinical psychiatrist, Lawrence Climo wasn’t
ready to retire. He set out on the road, lit-
erally and figuratively, taking temporary as-
signments at medical facilities around the
country.
Recounting both the inner and outer jour-
ney, the stories in this book convey wisdom
and compassion. Climo writes, “I found
myself reconnecting with some familiar and
some not-so-familiar insights into my field
and myself. I remembered the obvious and
humbling insight into the mystique of psy-
chiatry. That mystique, I recognized with
refreshing clarity, is not about psychiatry. It
isn’t even about the psychiatrist or psychiatric treatment. It’s about healing. I also
came to appreciate that the power of words resides less in their meaning than in
the magic of the stories they tell.”

About the Author

Lawrence H. Climo, M.D. has been a psychiatrist for more than forty years, the last
five as a locum tenens or itinerant practitioner. A Yale graduate, he is Board Certi-
fied (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology). He was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal for military service in Vietnam

Losing the Way

A Memoir of Spiritual
Longing, Manipulation,
Abuse, and Escape

Kristen Skedgell

A riveting and finely crafted true story,

Losing the Way recounts how the daughter
of East Coast intellectuals was recruited
into a well-known right-wing Bible cult, The
Way International, where she was manipu-
lated, betrayed, and abused. In the end, she
was rescued by the “worldly” mother she
rejected. Skedgell shows how easily an ide-
alistic young person can be swept away by
a spiritual quest, and she skillfully exposes
the quiet malevolence lurking beneath the
religious exterior of a false leader.

About the Author

Kristen Skedgell is a Clinical Social Worker at a maximum-security correctional
facility and a writer.

Review
“How is it that a woman determined to be good—virtuous—can make such an unholy
mess of her life? In pursuit of grace, Kristen Skedgell gave herself to one devil after
another. She lost her way in life, but not on the page, and her account of finding
her way back home, back to the self she denied and betrayed, has something to
teach all of us.”
