Adhesive of your choice
1.You will use two base pages from the Bella Level 1 kit – the “Half and
Half – Corner Title will be your left-hand page as you face it and the
“Title Topper – Billboard” which will be laid on its side.

2. LIQUID GLASS EMBELLISHMENTS: To begin, you can prepare your

“liquid glass” stickers. While the stickers are still on the sheet, use
liquid glass and thoroughly coat all three bumblebees, and the four
purple berries with 2 leaves stickers. On the “With Love” title sticker,
glass all of the pink flowers. On the pink-flowers-with-leaves-corner
stickers, apply liquid glass to the pink flower only.
Cut 3 whole and one partial purple flower from the floral paper, cutting
along the edge. Apply liquid glass to the purple centers only.
Apply the three purple buttons and the two brown buttons to matching
clear buttons to cover the clear buttons. Cover with liquid glass,
thoroughly.
Allow all liquid glass embellishments to dry over night.

3. FAUX RIBBON EMBELLISHMENTS: Using the striped paper, one of the

purple rickrack stickers and the dotted purple ribbon stickers, you will
be using them as though they were actual ribbon being applied to the
lay-out. The purple rickrack and one of the purple dot strips will be
used intact. The other purple dot strip will have two 4” lengths cut
from it. When you remove the purple dot strip, you will notice and
ultra-thin solid purple strip that is adhesive and runs along side of the
purple dot strip. You will use an intact 12” piece of this as an accent.

PHOTOS
I chose two photos of my grandmother, Geneva Beck, from when she
was a young woman. I printed one (my favorite) on glossy photo paper
as a 6 x7 in Black and White. Sepia also fits the colors in this layout
well, but may not be as clear to see. I printed the other as a 4 x 6, also
Black and White.

LEFT-HAND PAGE
4. Use the “Half and Half – corner title” as your left hand base. Be sure
that the floral designed half is on the outside left and the “crème
brulee” colored panel is on the right side of the page. Mount your 4 x 6
photo on the lower half of the crème brulee colored panel. Use the
berries with leaves that is covered in liquid glass (now dry from
overnight) as the four corner holders, leaves along the edges of the
photo.

5. Type your journaling. HATE YOUR HANDWRITING? Here is a trick.

Type your journaling either in print or cursive font that resembles
hand-writing. Choose to print it in the “gray” if you have a color printer
or “gray-scale” if it is black and white. Print it on the crème brulee
cardstock. (Note – I have a 12 x 12 printer so that is not a problem for
me. If you have a standard printer, cut the cardstock accordingly. It
can be no wider than 5” wide and no longer than 9.25”.) Using the .02
tip pen, go over the journaling typing. It is nicely and neatly written
and when you go over it with the pen, you “wrote it” yourself. I do this
with a lot of my journaling. You can pick a variety of fonts to fit the lay-
out and you can also spell check!

6. Cut the card down to 5” x 9.25” at most – it may be smaller if you

choose. Ink the edges of the journaling card lightly with the Chocolate
ink. Mount in the “center” of the floral section, as much as possible.
Mount the “flower and leaves” corner sticker with the now dry liquid
glass over the flowers on the upper left hand corner and the lower right
hand corners. Use two leaves, also pointed “in” along the upper right
and lower left corners. Place one tan “button” on top of the center of
the leaves in each corner. Place a bumblebee embellishment near the
upper right half of the journaling and draw a small set of short stitch-
like lines behind the bee in a random manner to show flight.

7. Ink the edges of the hand-cut purple flowers with the liquid glass
centers, using the Chocolate ink to distress each flower and petal
lightly. Once dry, use a white-ink pen to apply stitch marks around the
edge of the hand-cut purple flowers and to draw a white ink circle
around the outer edge of the liquid glass centers. Allow time to dry.

8. Apply the partial purple flower, cut from the floral paper, in the
upper center of the crème brulee colored section. Apply two of the
large pink flower stick-ease to the same area, overlapping the purple
flower and each other. Layer the three hand-cut purple flowers
overlapping and adhere. Use a pencil to roll the edges of the purple
petals to give depth to the flowers. This flower collection should be in
the upper half of the crème brulee section. Apply one of the
bumblebee embellishments to cover any pink edges. Draw the same
kind of “flight line” from the bumblebee to the edge of the 4x6 photo.

9. Place A 12” purple rick-rack stick-ease on the left edge of the green
stripe between the crème brulee and floral part of the paper. The
micro-thin strip of purple should be placed down the center of the
green stripe on the right hand of the crème brulee section. That
finishes the left page.

RIGHT-HAND PAGE
1. Use the “Title Topper – Billboard” as the right-hand base. Turn the
base page so the crème brulee colored block is on the upper left-hand
portion of the page.

2. Cut the three stripes off of the striped paper that has green vines on
crème brulee background with a stripe on each side with crème
colored dots down the green stripes. It measures approximately ¾”
across. Cut two 8” lengths from two of the stripes. Cut one 12” stripe
into two 6” lengths. Mount the 6x7 photo in the center of the crème
block. Frame with the green vine strips. Adhere.

3. On the bottom left and bottom right corner of the frame, adhere one
of the medium sized pink flower stick-ease stickers. Use a glue dot to
adhere one of the brown buttons covered in liquid glass to the center
of each of the flowers.

4.On the upper right corner of the frame , place a medium pink stick-
ease in the corner, allowing some to hang-off edge, and then mount
one of the purple buttons with liquid glass over the center in the center
of the flower. Attach a bumblebee embellishment on the lower right
edge of the flower and draw in the flight line with the .02 black pen.
5. On the upper left hand corner of the frame, mount one medium pink
stick-ease flower and overlap slightly with two small flowers aiming
toward the photo. Place one of the purple button embellishments on
the center of the medium flower. Place two of the crème colored dots
from the stick-ease sheet on the center of each of the small flowers.
Use the white pen to draw stitch lines around the petals of the small
flowers.

6. Place one of the purple dot stick-ease strips down the center of the
green band on the right of the base page. Cut two 4” strips from the
remaining purple dot stick-ease and adhere one on the left of the
green area on the bottom, approximately ½ cm from the edge and one
on the right the same measurement in from the right edge. Adhere the
“With Love” embellishment in the center of the green block at bottom
of page. Leave space to spell out the name or “Nick-name” of the
person in the photo, using the pink alphabet squares. Place the final
purple button embellishment at the top center of the green box.

TWISTS
Though this is a heritage page, I liked the softness and kind of
whimsical design of this Bella kit, which while subtle, does not relegate
the page to a somber and dark tone. The flowers and “faux ribbons”
remind me of my grandmother because she loved to garden and sew.
It makes it feminine, while still give it some classic influence.

Using the liquid glass, instead of distressing, allows the flowers, the
bumble bees and the buttons to stand out and have more dimension.
The same thing goes for the floral bouquet on the top of the left-hand
page .

Rolling the edges of the cut-out flowers, as well as inking the edges
and adding the white-ink detail also adds dimension to the lay-out.

One suggestion I make that does not include supplies from CTMH is the
use of beading on the layout. I recently got some great antique beads
in soft purples and pink. These can be added by wiring through the
paper, stringing the beads on the wire and then adhering the two wire
ends on the back of the page, after it is passed through the paper. You
can add beads as a 3-D necklace or some other trim and it adds a
classic nostalgic interest to the lay-out.

Journaling I believe this is the most important part of our page besides
the photos. In my journaling I wrote how the photos made me feel and
what they brought to mind about my Gram. You can write it as a letter,
a list of questions, or in some way to make it personal. Just giving life
statistics is so static and boring. Make these layouts and the journaling
bring questions to the minds of anyone looking at them, so they can
develop their own ideas about the subject. Using our own hand-writing
really makes it special to the next generation, but if you just can’t,
then use the “gray ink” trick and write over it to give it the handwritten
look.
