Police Update
Captain Greg Suhr gave us an update on the individual who recently drove into bike riders in
Potrero Hill and the Mission. The suspect was apprehended and is in custody. He has been
charged with multiple counts of attempted murder. The Capitan expressed a desire to partner
with neighbors and businesses to provide constructive activities in support of teenagers this
summer. He sees the police role as helping to keep our neighborhoods safe and calm, and
encourages others to spearhead specific activities or programs. Due to a recent mugging of a
Good Life Grocery employee, the police also agreed to increase police presence down 20 th street
during key evening hours when Good Life and other businesses are closing.

Janet showed us some samples of her work. She works with large corporations all the way
down to individuals, big jobs, small jobs, short and long-term projects. She does print and web
based design, and has also contributed her talent to PHAMB, pro-bono, by designing the Locals
First! logo and helping with the cover design for the 2010 directory.

more info.

Government Affairs Committee Update:

 Joe Boss organized a meeting with Sophie Maxwell to see what Potrero Merchants and
PHAMB can do to address community concerns about young people with limited
resources and activities this summer and to further discuss the DCYF funding patterns.
(The committee is concerned that funding for Potrero Hill youth, especially those older
than 13, is inadequate.) Anyone interested in getting involved should email
joeboss@joeboss.com.
 The Government Affairs Committee recommended that PHAMB join the Small Business
Network (SBN). Annual membership is $395. PHAMB on the whole tends to have a
different perspective than many other SBN members, and it is believed this would be an
important and strategic place to get involved and allow our voice to be heard. The SBN
is typically a fairly conservative group, with significant political influence in San Francisco
policy setting. The membership voted unanimously that PHAMB join. When our Council
of District Merchants (CDMA) Membership ($750/year) is up for renewal next year,
PHAMB can assess if it is still in our best interest to remain a member of that group as
well.
 Proposed Tax Changes: The Government Affairs Committee has been discussing the
impact of the various potential City tax proposals, and how changes could impact our
members in different businesses. If you would like more info about the specific
proposals, contact Michelle Mackenzie at michelle@mackenziewarehouse.com and she
will email you the information. If you take that info and run a scenario for your business
outlining how the changes could impact you, contact Steve Moss at
editor@poteroview.net. He would be interested in running your scenario in the Potrero
View.
 If you want to learn more and get involved with any of these issues, attend the next
Government Affairs Committee Meeting. These are typically Friday, 11am @ MacKenzie
Warehouse, the same week as the PHAMB general meetings. Contact Keith
keith@everestsf.com for more info.
