Report of the Coastal Zone Watch Programme

Report of the Coastal Zone Watch Programme

Ratings: (0)|Views: 126 |Likes:
Though old, the debate on coastal issues stays immature, and the laws and policies are in stages of confused evolution. The coastal ecology is not only one of the most dynamic ecologies, its diversity allows for a wide range of uses. Because of the excess exploitation of the coast for its abundant resources, it is among the most threatened zones. Not only are the issues in themselves multi-dimensional, but the search for solutions are varied. However, a similarity exists across all of them; that it is social, economic, and basic human integrity of the traditional and local populace of coastal areas that are compromised. It was to gain a comprehensive understanding of these that EQUATIONS took up the task of tackling multiple issues on the coast. This publication is a detailed report on the Coastal Zone Watch Programme of EQUATIONS. The programme was launched to gain a comprehensive understanding of issues affecting the coast leading to its ruthless degradation. Focussing on highly vulnerable areas, detailed studies were undertaken to analyze the current state and predict and prevent further damage.
